Description
June 23, 1925.
B. LONG WINDOW SHADE BRACKET Filed June 23. 1924 Patented June 23, 1925.
UNITED STATES BARNETT LONG, OF MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA.
WINDOW-SHADE BRACKET.
Application filed June 23, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BARNETT LONG, citizen of the United States, residing at Martinsburg, in the county of Berkeley and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Window-Shade Bracket, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window shade brackets, and aims to provide a window shade bracket of the adjustable type, so that the device may be adapted for use in connection with window shades of various widths.
Another important object of the invention is to provide novel means whereby the shade brackets may be readily secured in their positions of adjustment, eliminating any possibility of the shade becoming displaced due to the loosening of the securing means.
vVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it beingunderstood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view disclosing a window frame supplied with a bracket constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational of the bracket.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line H of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the bracket member.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the bracket member constructed in accordance with the invention includes a body portion 5 which is formed with a central offset portion 6 that provides a guideway for the spaced arms 7 of the bracket proper.
These spaced arms 7 are formed integral with the head 8 and disposed at right angles thereto to permit of lateral adjustment of Serial No. 721,763.
the bracket with respect to the body portion 5.
The space between the arms 7 accommodates the screw 9 which extends through an opening in the offset portion 6 of the body portion 5 and engages the nut 10 which is of a width equal to the width of the offset portion, so that the offset portion acts as a lock for the nut to prevent rotation thereof.
Thus it will be seen that as the member 9 is rotated in a clockwise direction the nut 10 is drawn into close engagement with the arms 7 to clamp the arms 7 between the nut and offset portion of the body 5 and secure the bracket member in its positions of ad j ustment.
Formed integral with the body portion 5 are flanges 11 that embrace portions of the edges of a window frame as shown by Figure 1 of the drawing to restrict movement of the body portion 5 with respect to the window frame on which the bracket is supported.
Screws 12 extend through openings in the body portion 5 and secure the body portion 5 in position. In order that the arms 7 will be guided to the body portion one edge of the offset portion 6 is turned upwardly at 13. The head is formed with an opening 14, there being provided an opening 15 extending from the outer edge of the head to the opening 14: allowing the shaft of a shade roller to be positioned therein.
\Vhile I have shown and described a single bracket member, it is to be understood that these bracket members are arranged in pairs when mounted on a window frame.
It is believed that in view of the foreadapted to extend between the spaced arms, a nut positioned under the arms and having a threaded opening to receive the screw, and said screw adapted to be operated to move the nut into close engagement with the arms of the supportingbracket to clamp the arms into engagement with the inner surface of the outstanding portion of the body portion.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
BARNETT LONG.
\Vitnesses Mrs. 'IYD. COPENHAVER, HELENA COPENHAVER.
