SHADE AND CURTAIN HANGER.
i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN O. DOUGH- IJRTY, citizen of the United States, residing at Toronto, inthe county of Jefferson and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved shade and curtain hanger and has as its primary object to provide a device of this character which may be easily and. ineX-' pensively constructed and which may be applied without difficulty.
The invention has as a further object to providean improved type of hanger bracket Car which may be struck from suitable sheet metal.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide a shade and curtain hanger which will be neat in appearance and whereinothe' shade holders employed may be adjusted to accommodate shade rollers of different lengths. 1
. Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.

particularly shown in Fig. l, seated against the outer vertical edge of a window casing and is secured thereto by spaced screws or other suitable fastening devices' .Struck from these margins of the bracket bodies are laterally and inwardly directed lugs 12 which seat against the front face of the window casing and are also secured thereto by suitable fastening devices. Extending laterally and inwardly from the lower ends of the bracket bodies are channel guides 13 seating flat gainst' the front face of the window casing. Slidable within these guides are shade roller holders'l' l. These holders are each formedwith spaced openings and formed for selective engagement in said openings are thumb screws 15 adjustable to coact with the, guides 13 for securing the holders in adjusted position longitudinally of the guides. Thus, the holders may be positioned either toward or away from each other for receiving shade rollers of different rected arm of one holder is, as shown in detail inFig. 4, provided with a slot 16 opening through the front edge of said arm while the arm ofthe other holder is provided with spaced openings 16'. These slots and openings are, as will be readily understood, adapted to receive the trunnions of a shade rollerand, in this connection, it will be observed that by forming the slot 16 to extend in opposite directions from the mouth thereof as well asproviding a pair of .the openings 16, the holders may be reversed end for end upon the guides so that the arms of the holders may be disposed at the inner edges of the side portions of the window casing.
Furthermore, the holders may be presented inwardly, toward the window upon the margins of the bracketbodies are laterally guides.
and outwardly directed flanges 17 provided at their outer ends with depending lugs 18. At their outer end portions, these flanges are provide with slots 19 extending into the lugs. Similar slots 20 extend throughout the major portion of the length of the flanges. The slots of each bracket are divided by an intermediate transverse web 21. Slidable through the slots 19 are curtain pole arms 22 slidably connected with the flanges 17 by eyelets -23 projecting freely through the slots and secured to the in ner ends of said arms. At their outer ends the arms are provided with depending loops 24 adapted to sup ort a curtain pole and threaded through the outer terminals of the loops are set screws 25 adjustable to impinge against the pole for firmly securing the pole upon the arms. Thus, a curtain and shade may be suspended from the hanger in front of the window and in this connection it will be observed that the arms 22 may be adjusted upon the brackets for positioning the curtain either toward or away from the window. V
In Fig. 5 of the drawings I have shown a slightly modified form of bracket. In this modification, a sheet metal bracket body 26is employed. This bracket body is, as suggested, adapted to be secured at its inner margin to the inner edge of a window casing and is provided with a laterally and outwardly directed lug 27 to overlie the front face of the casing to which the lug is secured. Formed on thebracket body at its lower end is a'laterally and outwardly di- 'rected channel guide 28 adapted to'overlie the front face of the casingand provided with a longitudinal slot 29. This guide is adapted to receive a shade roller holder in the manner shown in connection with the preferred construction. Formed from the upper margin of the bracket body is a lat- V erally and inwardly directed flange 30 continned at its outer end to provide a curtain pole loop 31. Adjustable through the outer end of said loop is a binding screw 32 for the curtain pole. As will be seen this modified structure provides a very simple ty eof bracket;
In I ig. 6 I have illustrated a further modified form of hanger bracket. In this modification, a bracket body 33'is employed, this bracket body being constructed from a piece of suitable resilient sheet metal, as in the other forms of the invention, and being adapted to be secured atits inner margin to the outer edge of one side strip of a window casing. Formed from the bracket bodyis a laterally and inwardly directed lug 34 corresponding to the lug 27 of the prior modification. At its upper margin, the bracket body is provided with a longitudinal slot 35 and extending inwardly from the'bracket at its upper outer corner is a lateral lug 36 provided with a slot '37 lying in a plane with the slot 35. These slots are adapted to receive a curtain pole arm as in the preferred construction. Formed in the lower end portion of the bracket body adjacent its outer edge is a vertical slot 38 and slidable through this slot is a shade roller holder-39 which, as shown, is similar to the holder 15 wherein the modification a sheet metal bracket body 40 isemployed. This bracket body is designed to be secured at its lnner margin to the. outer vertical edge of one side strip of a window casing and is provided adjacentits upper end with a laterally and inwardly directed lug 41 adapted to be secured to the front face of the casing. Formed on the outer end of the bracket, is a curtain pole loop 42 through the outer end of which is adjustably fitted a binding screw 43 for the I slot 48 and being adapted to receive a shade roller holder as suggested in connection with the other forms of the invention. At. its
innerend the guide is provided with a laterally directed lu 49. This lug is insertible through the s ot 45 of the. flange 44 to engage beneath the lugs 46 for connecting V the guide with the bracket body. As will be seen, this modification provides a very simple type of bracket and a construction shade roller guide is detachable. 7 I
In Fig. 8 of the drawings I have shown a still further-modification. A sheetnietal bracket body 50 is employed. Formed from the inner margin of this bracket bodyis a laterally and outwardly directed flange 51 at the upper'end of which is provided'an inwardly directed lug; 52 abovewhich is arranged an outwardly directed lug 53. The flange and these lugs are designedto be secured to the front face of a window casing for connecting the bracket thereto. Projecting laterally and inwardly from the lower end of the flange 51 is a slotted guide 54 for receiving the shade rollerholder. Formed from the upper margin-of the bracket body is a laterally'andoutwardly Formed in the outer end portion of the 7 bracket body is'an opening 57 This. opening is deslgned to receive a curtaln rod. Thus, an ordinary-curtain may be suspended from the pole within the loop 56 while a shorter or valance curtain may be suspended from the rod'within the opening 57. This modification, therefore, provides a particularly desirable construction.
In Fig. 9 I have showna further modified form of the invention. In'this modification a bracket body 58 is employed. Formed from the inner margin of the bracket body is a laterally and outwardly directed. flange 59 correspondlng to the flange 51 of the prior modification and extending inwardly from the bracket body at the upper end of the flange 59 is a lug 60 corresponding to the lug 52 of theprior modification. Projecting inwardly from the lower end of the flange 59 is a channel guide 61 designed to receive a shade roller. Formed in the upper edge of the bracket body adjacent its outer end are spaced notches 62 each of which is adapted to receive a curtain pole and formed in the upper margin of the bracket body adjacent its inner end is an opening 63 designed to receive a curtain rod. Thus, three curtains in all may be suspended from this bracket.
In Fig. 10 I have shown a still further modification wherein a bracket body 64 is employed. Formed from the inner margin of this bracket body is a vertical flange 65 and formed from the upper margin of the bracket body is a horizontal flange 66. At its lower end, the flange 65 is bent to providea suspension loop 67 above which the bracket body is formed with a laterally and outwardly directed arm 68 designed to receive a shade roller. Formed from the outer end of the flange 66 is a curtain pole loop 69. Thus, a curtain may be suspended from a pole or rod within, this loop as well as a pole or rod within the loop 67.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the character described including a bracket body formed at its inner margin for receiving fastening devices therethrough and having its inner margin slit from the inner edge of the body to define a laterally directed stop flange lying in advance of the rear edge of the bracket body.
2. A device of the character described including a bracket body having its inner margin slit from the inner edge of the body to define a laterally directed flange and provided at its lower end with a laterally directed guide integral With the body and formed with confronting flanges for slidably connecting a shade roller holder with the guide.
