CORNER-LOCK FOR METALLIC BEDSTEADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May '7, 1907.
Application filed March 4:, 1907. Serial No. 360,307.
To all whom it uny concern;
Be it known that I, ALFRED J. KROENKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lakewood, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner-Locks for Metallic Bedsteads, and I do declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
-My invention relates to improvements in corner locks for metallic bed-steads, and the invention consists in a lock and mounting or covering therefor, substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the lock and its covering in position on a corner post, asection of which is shown. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partially in section of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of both Figs. 1 and 2 on a line corresponding substantially to 2 2, Fig. 2.
The invention as thus shown is comprised in the several parts shown comprising the corner post A, which we may assume is of brass, the right angled corner lock B, which is a malleable or other casting, the corner plate or facing C, and the caps or sleeves D for holding the facing or plates O in their position.
The corner lock 13 generally is a gray metal casting having no fine surface finish, and not really available for use with a highly finished bed-stead in its original state and color. Hence, I have made said lock available for a bed of this kind and brought it into harmony with the bed by facing the same with a brass plate or mounting C. Said plate is constructed to conform exactly to the outlines and formation of said lock, being made'with right angled wings 2 adapted to lie fiat against the wings I) or sides of the lock, and a middle portion 3, circular in cross section like the lock to conform to the shape of the bedpost and having transversely circular projec tions 5 and 4 above and below at its middle which are tightly engaged by the respective caps D and D, and by which said. plate C is held firmly against the face of the lock. The rounded middle portion of the plate as thus gripped over its extensions top and bottom by said caps promotes the holding of the plate upon the lock and prevents it from shifting out of position. If further means were required to secure the plate in position they could be adopted, but nothing further is demanded ordinarily, as the plate is shaped to hug the face of thelock by its wings with something of a spring effect from its curved portion 3.
What I claim is:
1. A cast metal corner lock for brass and like bed-st'eads, having wings at right angles and a middle transversely rounded portion for the bed post uniting said wings, and a face plate covering said look conforming to the entire surface and edges thereof and having upward and downward projections at its middle segmental in cross-section and projecting beyond the edges of the lock, whereby a finished facing for the outer side of said lock is provided.
2. A metallic bed-stead comprising a tubular corner post, a corner lock having a cir-
