BED-CORNER.
Liver-eu Speccationef Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
i Application led .Tune 22, 1914. Serial No. 846,504.
T 0 oZZ whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY J. GARMODY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rome, in the county of Oneida and State of Neuf-York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Corners, of which the following is a specicatiom reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to a bed corner and I declare the following to be a full, clear, concise, and exact description thereof sutiicient to enable anyone skilled in the art to which it appeitains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the speciication.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, efficient bed corner adapted to permit of the reversing of the side rail, whereby the said side rail can be employed either in the regular position or in the reverse position. The latter or reverse position is advantageous for the use of slats in supporting the bed springs. 'Ihesc objects will appear by reference to the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, partially in section, of the bed corner, showing the side rail held in reverse position; Fig. 2 is a perspective view, partially in section, showing the side rail held in regular position; Fig. 3 is a perspective detail view of the locking piece employed, a fragmentary piece of the rail being shown attached thereto; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the frenchiiig or member attached to the corner post of the bed, the locking piece being removed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the bed corner embodies a frenching or member 20 secured to the end post 21 at a suitable distance from the floor end thereof, and having a projecting portion 22 in which is formed a cylindrical recess 23V with an opening 24C, whereby to give access for the insertion in said recess 23 of the correspondingly shaped member or tongue 25 integral with the locking or corner piece 26. The corner piece 26 is beveled at 27-27, whereby either of the said beveled portions may lie adjacent the beveled surface of the shoulder 28 formed upon the portion 22 of the frenching 20, in order to hold said corner piece 26 in either the position illustrated in Fig. 1, where the side rail 29, secured to the said corner piece, is in the reversed position or in that illustrated in Fig. 2, where the side rail 29 is in the regular position. The cylindrical construction of the member or tongue 25 integral with the corner piece 26 will prevent, after its insertion in the recess 23 in the portion 22 of the frenching 20, the corner piece 26 from'separating longitudinally from the frenching 20 and the shoulder 28 of the frenching 2O will hold the corner piece 26 in elevation, whereby there is formed a secure joint that can be easily detached to reverse the disposition of the side rail 29.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a bed corner, a member secured to the corner post of a bed, a cylindrical recess having a constant diameter throughout its length in said member, a locking piece having beveled portions secured to the end of a side rail, a cylindrical shaped member integral with said locking piece, beveled supporting means on said first named member, said beveled portions on said locking piece adapted to abut against said means on said first named member, whereby to hold said locking piece in elevated position and the member and locking piece in close contact throughout their end areas.
2. In a bed corner, a frenching secured to the corner post of a bed, a cylindrical shaped recess in said frenching, said recess having a constant diameter throughout its length, a locking piece fastened to the end of a side rail, a cylindrical shaped tongue integral with said locking piece, beveled portions on said locking piece, and shoulders formed on said frenching, outside of and adjacent the lower end of said recess, said beveled portions adapted to abut against said shoulders, whereby said locking piece may be held in elevated position.
3. In a bed corner, a frenching secured to the corner post of a bed, a cylindrical shaped recess having a given diameter throughout formed in said frenching, an opening from said recess, a locking piece fastened to the end of a side rail, a cylin drical shaped tongue formed upon said locking piece, beveled portions in said locking piece, and shoulders disposed outside ot said recess and adjacent the lower end thereof, .'1
cess and adjacent the lower end thereof, and beveled portions formed in said locking 15 piece adjacent the upper and lower ends of said tongue, said beveled portions adapted to abut against said shoulders,`whereby to hold said side rail in elevated position.
In testimony whereof I have afixed my 20 signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
HENRY J. CARMODY.
