Description
dilated Staten @met @time STEPHEN A. BAKKER, OE PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO NEW ENGLAND TOY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 98,733, dated January 11, 187 C.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom 'it mag/'concern Be it known that I, STEPHEN A. BARKER, of the city and ycounty of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coin-Trinmings; and I do hereby declare thatA the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference beingr had tothe `annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a coffin-trimming, with my improvement attached.
Figure 21'epresents the same when opened, or with cap turned ott'.
Figure 3 represents another pattern, with thesame improvement attached.
In the accompanying drawingd and e, fig. 1, represent a well-known coin-trim ming; d, the face-plate, and e, the cap or cover.` cl is made with a countersunk hole for a screw, the common way of fastening, as shown in iig. 2.
One side of the cap or cover, e, is connected to plate d by the pivot or pin b, so it can he turned, iig. 2'.
On the opposite. side of e, iig. 2, is formed the notched lip a, for the purpose of locking e to the stud c, as shown in figs. l and 3.'
To use my invention, the cap e being iiexible when turned to cover the centre of plate d, the notch in lip a is sprung and clasped to stud c, thus locking the cap e to its place.
rlhe advantage of my invention is, the notched lip arca-n' be used on any-shape cap, as in turning the cap e, it describes a circle, the pivot b as the centre. The lip a is made a suitable Width from the plane of cap c, on which it is formed, to avoid the interfering of a corner with the stud c, which interference would occur if it were not so arranged.
1 desire it to he distinctly understood that my invention relates Wholly to the mode of attaching the ornamental screw-cap to the main plate.
I therefore claim as new, and d/esire to secure by Letters Patent- The improvementA in ornamental cofn-trimmings herein described, which consists in providing the screw-cap with a notched lip a, arranged to spring vertically intov holding-contact With the stud c upon the main plate, for the purpose specified..
STEPHEN A. BAKKER.
