To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, JOHN J. WIRTNER, of Buffalo, in the county of Erie, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improve ments in Hanies, of which the following is a specification. l

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the manner of attaching the line-ring to a hame.

In hames as ordinarily constructed the clasp holding the line-ring is attached to the hame by a rivet, which passes through the wooden body of the hame, and the formation of the necessary hole for the reception of such rivet materially weakens the hame'body.

The object of my invent-ion is to so attach the line-ring to the hame as to avoid the use of any rivet and to facilitate the removal of a broken ring without'defacing the hame.

WVit-h these ends in View my invention consists of the improvements which will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a hame pro vided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a section 011 line 00 m, Fig. 1, and at right angles thereto. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the line-ring clasp with the ring removed therefrom.

Like letters of reference denote like parts in the several figures.

Arepresents the wooden hame-body, and B the metallic back-strap on the outer edge thereof.

0 represents the linering, and D the clasp whereby it is attached to the hame. The clasp D is made of malleable iron, open at its rear side, and provided with a recess, d, for the reception of the line-ring, the latter being introduced into this recess through the opening between the rear ends of the clasp. These rear ends are provided with inwardly-projecting flat base-plates d (1, adapted to engage under the baclcstrap B. The ring 0 being 5 placed in the clasp D, the two base-plates (1 cl of the clasp are placed under the metallic back-strap B at the point where it is desired to place the line-ring upon the hame, one on each side thereof, and the clasp is closed by pressure in the ordinary manner of forming a cold shut, whereby the clasp is firmly attached to the hame and the line-ring confined in the clasp. The wooden hame-body is preferably recessed at the point where the clasp D is applied, so that the metallic back-strap is not bent upward by the base plates d 03 when the same are placed underneath said strap. The use of this clasp dispenses with the use of a rivet for attaching the line-ring to the l1ame,-and avoids the weakening of the Wooden hame body by a rivet-hole through the same. The flat base-plates d d are held in an upright position between the hame-strap B and the body A, and hold the body of the clasp securely in a horizontal position.

I claim as my invention 1. The combination, with a hame, A, having a metallic back-strap, B, of a 1ine-ring, O, and a clasp, D, cast open to receive the line-. ring, and secured to the hame by means of the back-strap B, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with a hame, A, having a metallic back-strap, B, of a line-ring, G, and a clasp, D, cast open to receive the line- 7 5 ring, and formed at its ends with flat baseplates dd, adapted to be held between the metallic hame-strap B and the wooden body portion of the heme A, substantially as set forth. 8o
