T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Nnw'ron H. VVILLIAM- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenfield, in the county of lVeakley and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back- Band Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being-had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in buckles or the like and more particularly to a back band hook for use in connection with harness and the primary object of the invention is to provide a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be ver 'eflicient and useful in operation.

A still further object of the invention resides in providing a device which is formed of few and simple parts which may be quickly and readily applied one to the other in the application of the device to use.

In describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which 1 indicates a back band strap of the usual or any preferred design having a 100112 formed or otherwise secured thereon. My improveddevice comprises a closed elongated loop 3 which is suitablyengaged with the loop 2 0n the band and formed centrally on one portion of the loop 3, is a shank, the outer end of which is curved to form a hook 5 for the engagement of a flexible member 6, such as a chain or thelike.

bent inwardly toward one another over the top face of the plate and the free ends of the same are bent upwardly in spaced relation to one another to form the spring locking lugs 10. These locking lugs have the extreme free ends thereof bent outwardly, as shown at 11, to readily receive the shank l thcrebetwcen and the portions ofthe lugs 10 immediately below the extreme free ends of the same are bent inwardly toward one another to form a reduced space therebetween and this obviously afl'ords aspringlocking means for the shank with the hook thereon. The'free end of the hook 5 is also received between the upper edges of the lugs 10 and thus said. lugs form a closing means for the open end of the hook when a member is engaged with the latter.

By drawing urnvardly upon the hook, the shank may be released, from its engagement with the spring locking lugs 10 and the flexible member thus disengaged from the hook. It will be seen that the engagement of the locking lugs with the shank and hook member thereon is such as toprevent the casual. disengagement of said shank and hook member when the device is in use.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my in'lproved device, the manner of applying thesamc to use will be readily understood and it will be seen that I have provided a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very cflicicnt and useful in operation.

While I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.

Having thus described this invention, what I claim is l l. A device of the class described comprising a loop, a shankextending laterally from one arm of said loop, a plate having spaced knuckles pivotally connected to said arm of the loop on opposite sides of the shank, said shank being adapted to rest upon the plate and having its free end bent to form a hook,
