.ne @timtmi 5mm i 'I s :9 y l?) 4 Patenti @time JOHN E. TUCKER, OF BOSTON, ASSIGNOR- TO HIMSELF AND LEWIS` BONNEY, O F SAME 'PLAOE, AND JOSEPH C. SNOW, OF'MANSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.-
IMPROVED FAUCET.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all lwhom -it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. TUCKER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and in the State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and Auseful Improvements in Faucetsg and do here'by declare that thel following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing,1uul to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The natiue of my invention consists in the construction of a self-opening and seltlclosing faucet for drawing wine, h cer, or other liquids from barrels.
In 'order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appcrtains, to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, and which represent a side view, in section, of my invention.
A represents a screw-plug, which screwed into a barrel. This plug is provided, at a suitable point on lthe inside, With a perforated partition, B.
A headed screw-bolt, C, is inserted through'the front end of the plugr A, and is screwed through the centre of the partition B, which, for that purpose, is provided with afemale screw.
-The screw-bolt C passes through the plug A, and projectsbeynd the same atl the inncror rear end.
At this end an inverted cap, D, is screwed on to the bolt G, which cap fits snugly inside of the rear end of the plug A. y v
The cap D is, at a suitable distance from the rear end, perforated with a series of holes, through which the liquid flows.v
It will be seen 'that the liquid will pass through the perforated cap D into the plug A, then through the perforated partition B, around the.; head of the bolt C, and out through vt-he faucet E, which is screwed to the front end of theiplug A, the course of the liquid being shown on the drawings by arrows.
The head of the bolt O is cut with a square recess, in Vwhich the inner end of the faucet E tits, this end being eut square for that purpose, and perforated-to allow the liquid to pass from the plug A into the faucet.
When the faucet E is being screwed into the plug A, the inner end thereof, fitting into the recess ou the head ofthe screw-bolt-O, will also turn this bolt and more the cap D toward the rear, into the barrel, far enough to vuncover the holes, so that the liquid may pass through; and when the faucet is being unscrewed from the plug A, the screw-bolt C will be turned iu the opposite direction, moving the cap D into the plug, so as to coinpletely cover the holes and shut otf the iiow ofthe liquid. i
Having thus full) described my invention, That I claim as new, and desire to secure'by Let-V ters Patent, is-
The combination of the plug A, provided with a perforated partition, B,the headed screw-bolt C, inverted` perforated cap D, and faucet E, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. v Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have' hereunto set my hand, this 1 7 th day of Septc1nber,l868. l JOHN E. TUCKER. Witnesses: y
W. E. BOYNTON, Cms. H.' PATTEE.
