TIE FOR WIRE FENCES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907'.
Application filed September 21, 1906. Serial No. 335,652.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES I'IENDER- SHOTT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Bellefontaine, in the county of Logan and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ties for Wire Fences; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in ties for wire fences and it consists essentially of a piece of wire bent in substantially circular form and engaging the line and stay wire of a wire fence where the same are crossed, at equal distance from the ends of the tie wire. This tie at its middle engages one of the fence wires at one side, and at equal distances from the middle it engages the other wire at the other side, and its respective ends extend at opposite sides of the first named Wire and thence are oppositely turned at each side of the same, and are inserted within the circular portion of the tie, each end of the tie being inserted between the circular art of the tie and the fence wires, the ends being formed in substantially one-half of a knot around the fence wire all as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a device embodyy invention; and Fig. 2. is a plan view of the same.
Like numerals refer to like parts in both of the figures.
1 and 2 represent the respective line wire and stay wire of a wire fence as usually constructed. The middle portion 3 of the tie is bent in substantially circular form and midway of its ends engages one side of the wire 2,
and at equal distances therefrom it oppositely engages the wire 1, and at equal distance from its respective ends it engages the opposite sides of the wire 2 as at 4 and 5, and is thence bent partially around the same in the same direction and toward opposite sides of the fence and thence inward toward the axis of the circular portion, and having its extreme ends 6 and 7 extending toward opposite sides of the fence within the circular portion of the tie, and closely within two of the angles formed by the fence wires where they are crossed.
It will be noted that this tie presents substantially a circular outline; that its points of contact with the fence wires are all substantially equi-distant from the crossing thereof, and that the proportions of the tie are symmetrical and substantially equal in each direction from the middle of the wire forming the same.
hat I claim is:
1. A wire fence tie having a substantially circular outline, and having its respective ends crossed at opposite sides of one of .the fence wires and thence turned inward in opposite directions within the circular portion of the tie and with its ends directed toward opposite sides of the fence.
2. In combination with two crossed wires, a wire tie bent in substantially circular form and having its middle engaging one side of other fence wire at equal distance from its middle and thence extending at opposite sides of the first named wire and thence extending toward opposite sides of the fence and with its ends extended in opposite directions within its circular portion.
3. In combination with two crossed wires, a tie comprising a piece of wire bent in substantially circular form and engaging said crossed wires in four places substantially equi-distant from the crossing thereof, the respective ends of said tie being extended at opposite sides of one of said wires and thence bent partially around the same in the same directions and within the circular part thereof and with its ends inserted between the said circular part and the crossed wires and projecting toward opposite sides of the fence.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES HENDERSHOTT.
