SACK-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed June 14, 1906. Serial No. 321,913.
To (LZZ whom it nut/y concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. HENK'E, a citizen of the United States, residing at aconia, in the county of Carver and State of l Minnesota, have invented certain new and l useful Improvements in SaclvI-Iolders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to sack holders, the object being to provide a device of the char acter described that shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, durable, and effective in operation, and by the use of which empty sacks or bags may be supported in a tate the filling thereof.
I attain the desired object by the mechanism hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and finally claimed.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing said invention in operative position partly in section, and showing an l empty sack in cross section, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the spring released and the sack retaining frame out of operative position.
1 designates a suitable base or platform upon which the sack or bag rests while being filled. Mounted on this base is a frame comprised of the long slanting arm or upright 2, and the shorter arm or brace 3. The long arm 2 has pivotally mounted on its upper end an arm or lever 4 the outer end of which terminates in a ring or circular part 5 and over this ring the top of the bag or sack 6 is arranged, as shown in Fig. 1.
Pivotally mounted on the arm at is a ring or circular frame 7 which is slightly greater in circumference than the ring 01' circular part 5 and which is so positioned on said arm as to fit down over the outer edge of said ring 5 with just sufficient space between said rings to admit of the gripping of the bag or sack between and its frictional retention while being filled. On the brace or arm 3 is fixed a ring or eye 8, and a similar ring 9 is fixed on the rear end of the arm 4, the purpose of these rings being to afford means for con necting the rear end of said arm f, and the brace 3, by a helical or coil spring 10, said spring serving to yieldingly retain the arm in horizontal position while the bag or sack 6 is being filled and thereby rendering it easy to release the upper end of the bag from the supporting means hereinbefore described. The spring at its lower end has a hook or bent portion by means of which it may be readily engaged with and disengaged from the ring or eye bolt 8.
From the foregoing, and from an inspection of the drawing forming a part of this specification, it is believed the construction, functions, and operation of my invention will be apparent without further explanation.
Having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The herein described sack or bag holder comprising a suitable platform, an upwardly and rearwardly inclined standard projecting from said platform, a forwardly and up wardly inclined brace connected at its lower end to said platform and at its upper end to the intermediate portion of said standard, a lever hingedly connected intermediate its ends to the upper end of said standard, said lever having at its forward end an integral ring to receive the open upper end of a sack or bag, a second ring or loop to fit over the first-mentioned ring and to clamp the sack or bag between them, the second ring or loop having its ends terminating in straight parallel portions engaged. with the opposite sides of said lever and pivoted thereto, an eye-bolt upon the rear end of said lever, an eye-bolt upon said brace, and a coil spring having hooks at its ends to engage said eye-bolts and yieldably hold the lever in a substantially horizontal position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY F. HENKE.
