Description

PATENTED APR. 30, 1907'.
G. LEVY. DRAPERY SUPPORTING DEVICE.
APPLIOATION FILED JULY!). 1906.
- INVENTOI? aw [44 x wmmsszs v A TTORNEYS 0., WASHINGTON. n. c.
CHARLES LEVY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRAPERY-SUPPORTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 30, 1907.
Application filed July 9,1906. serial No. 325,267.
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
and passed through or under the base or Be it known that I, CHARLEs LEVY, a citilarger spiral of the draping device as shown zen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draping- Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to what are commonly known as drapery hooks for use on a Window frame or other frame for draping window curtains or other articles, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be easily connected with a window or other frame, and by means of which a window curtain or other article may be easily and conveniently draped and formed into what are known as rosettes.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved draping device; Fig. 2 a side view thereof;
Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the method of using the device; Fig. 4 a view similar to Fig. 3 but showing a complete rosette formed on my improved draping de vice, the rosette being formed from a window curtain or other article; and, Fig. 5 an inside view of a part of a window frame showing one Window curtain and showing the window curtain draped and formed into a rosette.
In the practice of my invention, I provide a device a of the class specified, composed of a strong wire bent into a conical spiral form and provided at its apex with a projecting prong or screw (0 which may be driven into a window or other frame or screwed into such frame.
Inpractice, the part a is preferably made in the form of a prong and a hole is made in j the window or other frame by means of an awl or similar device and the prong a is forced or driven into said hole.
In draping a window curtain or other article, the inner edge of the curtain is drawn up in Fig. 3 and enough of the material is drawn through or under said spiral to form the rosette 1) shown in Figs. I and 5, and in this operation the material that is drawn through the spiral is folded around the larger or base coil thereof, and tucked underneath and around the body of the complete spiral, and this operation forms the complete rosette which will retain its form under ordinary circumstances without any fastening, but in practice a pin or similar device may be employcd for securing the folded edge of the curtain or drapery around the body of the draping device.
The material 0 shown in Figs. .3 and at from which the rosette b is formed may consist of a curtain, portiere or other article, and such material or article wherever employed may be conveniently draped in the manner described by using my improved draping device, but the said device will be found most convenient for draping window curtains as shown in Fig. 5.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A draping device or hook composed of wire bent into the form of a conical spiral and provided at its apex with a central projecting prong.
2. A device of the class described, composed of wire and comprising an open wound spirally formed cone provided at its apex with a central pointed projection whereby it may be secured to a support and adapted to serve for the formation of a rosette in the process of draping.
3. A draping device composed of wire bent to form an open spiral cone and the apex of which is provided with a projecting prong which extends therefrom in line with the axis of the cone.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 7th day of July 1906.
. CHARLES LEVY. WVitnesses:
