CURTAIN-POLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. a, 1913.
Application filed nec-@inter 2s, 1era sentano. 738,312.
To czZZ whom t may concern: v,
Be it known that I, Gossrn Gr. GRIFFIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mulberry, in the county of Polk, State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to curtain poles.
The object of the invention is the provision of a curtain pole which may be readily adjusted so as to be applicable to door and window frames of different widths.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a curtain pole and fixture which is so constructed and arranged that the connection of the curtain with the pole and the connection of the pole with the door or window frame will both be invisible when the pole is applied. y
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a curtain pole which will be simple in construction, ornamental, easily applied in proper relation to a door or window frame and which may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost.
lVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper end of a door frame showing the improved pole applied. Fig. 2 a plan view of what is shown in Fig. 1 with the pole in section. Fig. 3 a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 a detail perspective view of a fragment of the tubular body portion of the pole.
ReferrinoV to the drawings, A indicates the door frame, B the improved curtain pole and C the curtain supported by the latter.
The curtain pole B is shown as comprising a tubular 4body portion l0 having a longitudinal slot 11 therein extending throughout the entire length of said body portion. Telescopically engaged over each end of the body portion 10 is a cap 11 provided at its inner end with a recess 12 adapted to be brought into alinement with the slot 11 when said caps are applied. Extending from the closed endof one of the caps 11 inwardly of the latter is a tubular rod 13, while a corresponding tubular rod 14 eX- tends inwardly from the closed end of the other cap 11 and telescopically engages within the rod 13. Ibrojecting outwardly from the closed end of each cap 11 is a threaded stud 15 upon which is engaged an ornamental knob 16.
In connecting the curtain C to the pole the upper end of said curtain is provided with a hem through which is inserted the tubular rod 13 while the cap 11 carrying said rod is detached from the body portion 10. The cap 11 carrying the rod 13 is then engaged over one end of the body portion 10, the curtain C being guided through the slot 11. The heads of nails 17 suitably secured to the frame A are then passed through the open end of the body portion 10, the shanks of said nails passing into the slot-11. After the body portion 10 has been brought into proper relation to the frame A the rod 14 is telescopically engaged within the rod 13 and the cap carrying the rod 14 telescopically engaged over the other end of the body portion 10 when the application of the pole will be complete.
In applying portires of considerable weight and thickness to the pole no hem need be provided in the upper end of the portiere, it being only necessary to carry same around the rod 13 and then work the double thickness resulting through the slot 11 which latter is suiiiciently narrow to clamp the body and overlapped ends of the portiere together.
that I claim is:
The combination with a supporting part, of headed members projecting therefrom, a curtain pole comprising a tubular body portion provided with a longitudinal slot eX- tending throughout its length, said body portion detachably engaging over the heads of said members with the shanks of the latter disposed in said slots whereby the body portion is supported by the members, caps whereby a curtain may be engaged with the telescopoaily engaged iiom each end of the body portion, and tubular rods carried by ture, in the presence of two Witnesses. and extending inwardly `from the heads of Y said caps and telesoopng with each other GUSSIE G' GRIFFIN Witnesses:

within the bore of the body portion.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of latents, Washington, D. C.
In testimony whereof, I aix my signai
