Y CURTAIN-POLE SUPPORT AND SHADE-BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 11, 191'?.
Application filed September 1, 1916. Serial No. 118,068.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MAnoUs J. GORE, a
`citizen of the United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Fierce and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Supe ports and ShadeeBrackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to curtain pole supports and curtain shade brackets.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly applied to window frames of various'widths without the necessity of using fastening means of any kind which will therefore eliminate the marn ring of the window frame.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a pair of jaws which constitute a curtain pole support and shade bracket and which are adjustably held between the groove of the lower sash of a window frame and may be easily and quickly secured therein without the use of any kind of fastening means.
A further object of this invention is to provide a window shade support and curtain pole which may be easily and quickly attached to a window frame and its adjustment assured.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple, practical and comparatively inexpensive structure that can be easily and quickly assembled, and its manufacture and cost reduced to a minimum.
Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the window frame partly in section and my improved curtain support and window shade fastener applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one jaw of my improved window shade holder and curtain pole support.
Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view through one of the jaw members, and Fig. 4 is a modified form of my improved curtain shade bracket holder and curtain pole support.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference designate like and corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing. Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates a window frame of the usual `construction having the stop 2 and partition strip 3 which defines the sash grooves t and 5.
In applying my improved device to use, the jaws 7 and 8 are arranged in the groove of the lower sash near the upper end thereof and are frictionally held therein by the telescoping rod 9.
The jaws 7 and 8 comprise curved bodies having concave inner faces and convex outer faces. rlfhe concave faces of the jaws are provided with the vertical grooves 10 and 11 which define the frame engaging arms 12. Formed on one side face of the jaws intermediate the ends thereof is a shade supporting arm 13 which extends at right angles to the body and has its outer ends bent outwardly and then curved inwardly to lie parallel with the arms forming the curtain supporting arms 14. The extreme ends of the curtain supporting arms 11i are provided with the vertical ends 15 which are adapted to extend through openings in a curtain pole for holding` the same rigidly thereon.
@ne arm 18 of the jaws is provided with an opening 16, the other arm is provided with a squared portion 17, to facilitate securing of a window shade roller therein. The jaw 8 is provided on its convex face intermediate its ends with a lug 18, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.
The jaw 7 is provided with an opening 19 on its convex face, which opening is in direct alinement when assembled in the groove of the window sash with the lug 18. The
ltelescoping rod 9 has one end tted over the lug 18 and its opposite end extending through the opening 19 of the adjacent jaw. One of said rods carries the nut 20 screw threaded thereon so that the jaws may be frictionally held between the window frame. lThe adjustment of the jaws for the various widths of window frames may be easily and quickly accomplished.
1n the modified form of my invention there is shown the curved body 21 having a vertical groove 22 on its concave face which de fines the attaching arms 23 which are provided with the fastening receiving openings 24 through which are adapted to extend screws for the securing of the same in the groove of a window frame. A shade supporting and curtain pole supporting arm 25 has one end removably secured to one side of the body intermediate the ends thereof as at 26 and extends right angularly therefrom. One of the arms is provided with a squared opening 27, while it being understood that Athe Aopposite arm has the pintle receiving opening 28 therein, the extreme end of the arm 25 'is bent up vertically to receive vthe opening of'a curtain pole thereon for holding the curtain pole firmly in position.
In Voperation lThe jaws are placed in the grooves of a window frame and the vertical grooves Iperenit the window sash support-ropes to slide therein thereby eliminating any interference of the movement of the window with the jaws. 'llhe rod 9 is then lfitted over a lug and itsopposite end extends through the opening i-n the adjacent jaw and adjustment is made yGopher, of this patent may be obtained for by the `nut 20 and the jaws are rigidly held in position and the device is ready for use.
lVhat is claimed is:
A'device of the `class described comprising a pair of jaws, said `jaws having curved substantially concave convex bodies the convex faces provided centrally of theirends with openings, said inner concave faces provided with vertical grooves defining gripping arms, said arms adapted to be clamped against the sides of the window frames for positioning :the 4jaws in :position and lthe ygrooves receiving the weight cord 'therein 'thus permitting ythe windows to be raised yand lowered when the device is sin position, curtain supporting and shade holding arms formed integrally with .the bodies intermediate .the ends and :arranged ait righthangles thereto, .and a telescoping rod for detachably. ho'lding the ljaws fto the sidesof the window frame.
In testimony whereof I affix lmy signature in presence `olf .two witnesses.
