CURTAIN HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that L NEWTON J. BISHOP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Curtain Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to curtain holders and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising window frame engaging brackets having members adapted to be imbedded in the sides of the window frame, said brackets and members being formed from single pieces of wire and terminating in outwardly and inwardly extending arms the last named arms being connecte together by coiled spring and forming. a rod on which a curtain may be suspended.

A further object is to provide detachable connecting means between one end of the coiled spring and one of the inwardly extending arms and forming means whereby the device may be disconnected and the curtain easily placed thereon.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination an arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spiritv of the invention.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device showing the same applied to a conventional form of window frame.

Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the brackets, showing the same applied to a portion of a window frame.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the upper end of a conventional form of window frame to the opposite sides 2 of which a curtain holder 3 is attached. The curtain holder 3 comprises brackets a twisted from a single piece of wire, which brackets terminate in outwardly extending arms 5, which in turn terminate in curtain receiving arms 6 extending towar s each other and in axial alignment. After the arms 5 and 6 have been formed, the wire from which each bracket is formed is bent at 7 and 8 to form the loop 9, which loop 1 by allowing the device to be easily terminates in an upwardly extending arm 10 forming a brace for preventing upward wobbling of the device as a whole. After the arm 10 has been formed, the wire is bent at 11 and passed downwardly through the loop 9 and bent at 12, thereby forming an upwardly extending arm 13 and at the same time forming a member for preventing downward wobbling of the device or movement of the device when a curtain is sus pended therefrom. The upper end of the portion 13 is passed through the loop 9, then bent outwardly over the arm 5 at 14:, and thence around the arm 5 at 15 and terminates in an outwardly extending arm 16 substantially parallel with the loop 9 and the face of the window frame 1. After the arm 16 has been formed the wire is again d bent to form the right angularly disposed arm 18 which overlies the side 2 of the window frame and terminates in a prong 19 extending towards the-window, which prong is adapted to be imbedded in the side 2 of the window frame for supporting the bracket. The structure of both brackets 4 is the same. It will be seen that a single piece of wire is utilized for forming each bracket & and the arms 5 and 6 carried thereby, thereconstructed and .cheaply constructed. Connected to one ofthe arms 6 at 20 is a coiled spring 21, the other end of which coiled spring terminates in an eye 22, which is detachably connected to the other arm 6 at 23, thereby allowing the device to be separated when it is desired to place a curtain thereon. When a curtain is placed on the device, the entire curtain is worked on the long arm 6 then the. spring 21 is connected at 23 to the long arm 6, after. which the curtain is equally stretched across the device as a whole, therefore the coiled spring 21 is completely concealed and at the same time the coiled spring functions in the usual manner, that is, for holding the prongs 19 in position in the sides 2 of the frame. The coiled spring 21 also forms means whereby the device may be applied to different widths of window frames, thereby allowing the same device to be used in connection with any window frame.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A curtain bracket formed from a single piece of wire and comprising a curtain supporting portion, the inner end of the curtain supporting portion terminating in an angular portion, an inwardly extending loop carried by the inner end of the angular portion and in parallel relation to the curtain supporting portion, outwardly extending window frame engaging loops carried by the first mentioned loop, the end of one of the frame engaging" loops being passed through the inwardly extending 100p and 10 bent around the angular portion, said end terminating in an ofiset prong adapted to be embedded in the side of a window frame.
