CURTAIN SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 24. 1920.

I 3 7% N m UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CURTAIN-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 7. 1920.
Application filed February 24, 1920. Serial No. 360,745.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in curtain-supports, the chief object of my present invention be ing. to provide a simple, inexpensive, and eficient curtain-support which may be attached in operative curtain-supporting position upon window-frame, casing, or the like not only with ease and convenience, but also without marring or defacing the frame or casing.
With the above and other objects in view, my present invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and afterward pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure l is an elevational view of my new curtain support shown in operative curtainsupporting position upon a window-frame;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same; and r Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmental view thereof.
Referring now more in detail to the said drawing, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several views, A indicates a hollow rod or bar comprising two complementing members 1 and 2 adapted to fit telescopically one within the other, as shown, whereby the rod A is freely lengthwise or longitudinally adjustable.
Inclosed and concealed within the rod A,
r is a coiled spring 3 of suitable elasticity so 7 that rod A when adjustably reduced to its tion of suitable wire shape shown.
It will be evident that, through the engagement of the ends. of the spring 3 with the capped or closed ends of the rod A, rod A will be adjusted in length as spring 3 is stretched or released; and accordingly in use or operation, as the spring 3 is stretched by its hooks 6 to permit the hooks 6 to engage a window-frame, such as the frame F illus trated, the rod A will be correspondingly lengthened to provide across the window a neat and convenient supporting-pole for a lace-curtain or the like, the resiliency of the stretched spring 3, exerted through its hooks 6 upon the window-frame, firmly holding the pole or rod A in curtain-supporting position. It will be obvious that by slightly further extending the spring 3, the hooks 6 may when required be disengaged from the window-frame and spring 3 and rod A then permitted to return to normal length. I
My new curtainsupport comprises few parts, is simple in construction, and is inexpensive of manufacture; and by my curtain-support I do away with the use of nails, screws, or other such fastening members and provide a curtain-support which may with facility and convenience be oper atively engaged in curtain-supporting position upon the window-frame or the like by any housewife.
I am aware that minor changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my curtain support may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described with out departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a curtain support comprising a telescopic pole having capped ends, resilient means within preferably bent to the the pole the ends'of which project through openings in the capped ends and engage the same, and attaching means secured to said projecting ends for resiliently holding said support upon a window frame or the like.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a curtain support comprising a hollow telescopic pole having capped ends, a coiled spring within the pole extending lengthwise there 01" from end to end and engaging said ends, the terminals of said spring projecting through the ends of said pole, and hooks directly connected to the projecting ends of the spring whereby the pole may be longitudinally extended for resilient support upon a window frame or the like.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a curtain-support comprising a hollow lengthwise adjustable pole of telescopic sections, in combination with means for operatively securing the same in position upon a windowframe or the like, said means including a coiled spring extending lengthwise within the pole, and engaging the outer ends of the telescopic sections and hooks at the ends of the pole having engagement only with the ends of the spring.
' 4. As a new article or" manufacture, a curtain support comprising in combination, a hollow pole consisting of complementing members telescopically adjustable relatively to each other, an extensile coiled spring extending lengthwise within, and having sengagement atits ends with theends' of said pole-members, and window-frame engaging hooks at the ends of said pole-members having engagement only with the ends of the spring. 1
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
WILLIAM 'I. LEVI.
