Description
March 4, 1930. D. MARK 1,749,595
SHADE OR CURTAIN FASTENER Filed May 14, 1928 4 I A? I M awwewtoz Patented Mar. 4, 1930 UNITED STATES DORA MARK, OF NEPONSIT, LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK SHADE on CURTAIN IFAVSTENER Application filed May 14,
My invention relates to improvements in curtains and shades particularly in the fastening means for said curtains and shades to their rollers or poles, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a shade or curtain fastener which allows the shade or curtain to readily be hung and quickly be exchanged for a new one without the necessity of disturbing or materially changing the shade roller.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a shade or curtain fastener permitting a ready exchange of a soiled or unsanitary shadeor curtain for a clean and sanitary one, which is of vital importance, for instance in hospitals, etc.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a shade or curtain fastening of simple and inexpensive construction, yet durable and efficient in operation.
With these ends in View my novel and improved shade fastening consists preferably of a plurality of eyes on the shade roller and hooks on the shade co-operating with said eyes to allow a ready removal of an old and worn shade and replacement by a new one without the necessity of materially changing the shade and curtain rollers or other hanging devices now in use.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will thenbe specifically defined in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a window curtain or shade equipped with a fastener constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary face view of a band adapted to be secured to a shade roller, and
I showing a plurality of eyes thereon.
Fig. 4 is'a similar view of the upper end of a curtain or shade showing a plurality of hooks, co-operating with the eyes on the band, Figure 3.
Fig. 5 is an end View of the device illustrated in Figure 3.
1928. Serial No. 277,592.
Fig. 6 is an end view of the device illustrated in Figure 4;.
As shown, the customary shade roller 10 of any customary well known construction has attached thereto, by means of glue, nails 5 or any other suitable fastening means a band 11 or the like, to which are attached or integrally made with the material of the band a plurality ofeyes 12, which may be attached to said band by means of small nails, screws or similar fastening means 18, passing through the side loops of the eyes into the roller.
The shade proper is designated 14:, and may be of any desired suitable material, shape and color. To the upper edge of the shade proper 14 are secured a plurality of hooks 15 either made integrally with the material of the shade or attached thereto by means of suitable fastening means 16, passed through the side loops of the hooks.
The shade can be weighted at its lower end by means of a rod or bar 17 removably guided within a seam 18 or the like provided for this purpose at the lower end of the curtain or shade 14.
The operation of my device will be entirely clear from the above description by the simultaneous inspection of the drawing, and it will be evident that the hanging of a shade is so quickly effected by simply engaging its books with the eyes on the roller band, so that the shades may be removed for washing etc. purposes or exchanged for new shades, which is particularly important for hospitals etc. for obvious reasons.
It is to be understood that I have described and shown the preferred form of my device only as an example of the many ways in which the same may be practically constructed and that I may make such changes in the general arrangement and in the construction of the minor details of my invention as fall within the scope of the appended claim without departure from the spirit of my invention and the principle involved.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A shade or curtain fastener comprising, a
band adapted to be glued to a roller or pole in the direction of its longitudinal axis, a plurality of Wire eyes, fastening means passed through the upper side loops of said eyes for 5 securing the same to said band, a plurality of wire hooks and fastening means passed through said lower side loopsof said hooks, to secure the same to. a shade near and parallel to the upper edge thereof, said hooks adapted to engage said eyes for removably hanging a shade or curtain from the roller or pole.
Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of New York this 10th day of May A. D. 1928. 1
DORA MARK.
