Description

Dec. 15.1925 1.565.576
5. S. LEVY WINDOW SHADE Filed May 18 1925 lnv or.
' Samue Levy Patented Dec. 15, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL S. LEVY, OF BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS.
WINDOW SHADE.
Application filed May 18, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. LEVY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Boston, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Window Shades, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to window shades and particularly to a novel device for detachably securing the shade to the shade roller. I
An object of the invention is to provide a novel shade-holding device which can be quickly and easily applied to a shade roller and when so applied provides means by which a window shade can be quickly and detachably connected to the shade roller without in any way disfiguring or injuring the shade.
An advantage of the invention is that it makes it possible for aperson to remove the shades from the rollers in order to clean them or in order to install new shades and this may be done without in any way disfiguring or injuring the shade;
'In order to give an understanding of the invention I have illustrated in the drawings a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described after which the novel features will be pointed out in the appended claims.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a shade roller and shade having my improvements applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the shade-holding devices;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 33, Fig. 1.
In the drawings 1 indicates a shade roller which may be of any usual construction and 2 indicates the window shade which may be of any suitable material.
My invention relates particularly to a novel means for detachably securing the shade to the roller 1. For this purpose I employ a plurality of shade-holding members 3, each of which has a semi-circular shape and is adapted to embrace a shade roller 1 and is provided at one end with prongs or teeth 4= that are adapted to be embedded into the Serial No. 31,057.
are preferably made resilient and are so formed that normally the distance between the hooked end and the toothed end is slightly less than the diameter of the shade roller 1 so that when the device is applied to the shade roller the ends thereof will be spread somewhat.
To attach the members 3 to the shade roller they may beforced over the latter and then the toothed end may be struck with a hammer to direct the teeth 4 into the shade roller. This securely fastens the holding members 3 to the roller.
The shade 2 is provided with a plurality of loops 6 which can be hooked over the hooks 5 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The
shade can thus be quickly applied to the roller or detached therefrom and this operation may be performed without in any way injuring or disfiguring the shade.
With this invention it is possible to take the shades down to have them cleaned if necessary or for the purpose of replacing them with other shades.
If desired, I may make the holding members 3 with apertures 7 through which a screw, nail or other'fastening device may be driven into the shade roller. I also will preferably provide means for stiffening or reinforcing the shade at the upper end so that it will hang straight and be free from wrinkles. This reinforcement may be secured by providing the shade with a pocket 8 extending from one side to the other adjacent the top, which pocket is adapted'to v receive a stick or metal strip.
