SAFETY DEVICE FOR WINDOW CLEANERS.
Application filed November 16, 1927. Serial No. 233,561. I
The invention relates to safety devices principally adapted for use by persons while working in cleaning or repairing windows.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a flexible or rigid guard, which may be easily and quickly attached to the window frame and against which an operator leans, so that he may work with areasonable degree of safety.
provision of a device of this character which may be manufactured at a relatively low cost so that it may be sold at a price considerably lower than devices of this sort that are now on the market. A
Other objects will appear and be better .understood from that embodiment of the invention of whichthe following is va specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the specification and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of a window frame showing the invention secured thereto.
view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure '1 and- Figure 3 is a perspective of the safety device per se.
0 Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a window frame and 2 the safety device which has its ends secured to staples 3 connected to the inner lower side portions of the frame as shown.
The safety device comprises a pair of relatively thin and flexible metallic strips 4; and 5 arranged in overlapping relation. The inner ends of the strips are bent over to provide hook-likesmernbers 6 and 7 ar' ably mounted thereon and adapted to fit Another object of the invention is the 'Figure 2 is an enlarged cross sectional over the free ends of the hook members 10 and 11 after the hooks have been secured in the staples. prevent displacement of the hooks and to permanently secure the guard to the frame of the window.
It is here to be noted 'that the entire device is made up from a single strip of relatively thin and flexible standard galvanized metal.
The collars are provided to In securing'the device in position to a a window frame it is first adjusted to the' proper length desired by extending or decreaslng the overlapping ends of the strips, the hooks 10and 11 are then engaged in the staples 3 and the collars 12, and 13 adjusted to overlap the free ends of the hooks to rigidly secure the same in position.
The device when properly adjusted is adapted to fit around the small of an operators backand when pressure is exerted against the strips they as well as the collars 8 and 9 become embedded within the operators back and securely hold the strips in their properly adjusted position.
Having-thus described the invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is i 1; A device of the character described comprising a pair of relatively thin and,
flexible 'metallicstrips in overlapping relation, the respective ends of the device having means for detachably connecting the same to a window frame, the inner ends of said strips having hook-like members and collars mounted on strips engaged by said hook-like members.
2. A device of the character described comprising a pair of relatively thin and flexible metallic strips in overlapping relation, the respective ends of the device having hook-like positions adapted-to engage in staples secured to the window frame, collars slidably mounted on the strips and adapted to fit over the free ends of the hook members to prevent displacement thereof, and means adjustably connecting together the inner portions of said strips.
In testimony whereof I have hereto affixed my si ature on this 14th day of November, 192%.
SALVATORE TRIDICO.
