UNITED sraras .param cFricE..
LOUIS H. REINHARDT, F INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI., ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO EDWARD F. RIE]Ill'rIARDTV OF GORE, MISSOURI.
CURTAIN FIXTURE.
Application filed May 9,
To alt whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Lours I-I. ItmNHAnn'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain Fixtures, of which the following is a` specification.
My invention relates to curtain fixtures and one object is to provide a new and desirable type of fixture for holding eurtains, draperies, etc., at windows, doors, or other openings.
Another object is to provide a fixture of this character, by means of which curtains, or draperies, can be more easily placed in position at a window, than by the methods heretofore in use. The curtains, or draperies, may also be easily taken down for dusting, laundering, house-cleaning and other purposes.
A further object is to provide a curtain fixture by means of which the curtains, or draperies, may be shifted back and forth,
f' to admit more or less light at a window,
such shifting being accomplished without undue wear on the curtains, as they do not rub against the curtain pole. The curtains, or draperies, may also be lifted up and attached to certain forms of fasteners with which the device is provided, as will hereinafter appear.
With the above and other objects in view, which will hereinafter appear, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the fixtures supporting a pair of curtains at a window.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section on line II-II of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail side View of one of the fasteners used in carrying out the invention.
Fig. 4 is a detail front view of said fastener.
Fig. 5 is a detail of another fastener.
Referring in detail to the drawing, A designates a window frame, B a window, and C a pair of curtains hung at said win dow A, the foregoing being of any ordinary or preferred construction. In carrying out the invention, I provide a member 2 having a hook 4 at its upper end adapted to engage 1924. serial No. 712,151.
over a curtain pole D, supported at the upper portion of the window A by a pair of brackets E.
The member 2 is provided with a depending shank 6, having` a suitable fastener 8 at its lower end, adapted to be secured to the adjacent curtain C and support t-he major portion of the weight thereof, which retains said member 2 in a perpendicular position.
10 designates a stem extending upwardly from the hook 2, and embellished with an ornament, as, for instance a bird 12. It is to be understood, however, that any suitable ornamental device may be provided, such as a flower, or the like. The beek of the bird 12 is provided with links 14 from which a clip 16 depends.
The clip 16 may be of any suitable form, but in the present instance embodies a pair of jaws 18, having finger pieces 22, which may be pressed together to open said jaws against the action of a spring 23. The jaws 18 are pivotally mounted upon a pintle 24.
26 designates a rod consisting, preferably, of ornamental, rust-proof metal, which the upper ends of the curtains C are looped.
In practice the rod 26, carrying the upper ends of the curtains C, is engaged by the clips 16 and said curtains C are secured to the depending shanks 6 by the fasteners S. The hooks 4, of the members 2, are then engaged over the curtain-pole D, making it appear that the birds 12 are supporting the curtains C.
When it is desired to dust the room, etc., the curtains C may be lifted up out of the way and secured by the fasteners 16. The hook members 2 may also be slid closer together or farther apart upon the pole D. to let in or exclude the light, as preferred.
From the foregoing it will be understood that I have provided a curtain fixture well adapted for the purpose intended, and while I have shown and described the preferred form of the invention, I reserve the right to make such changes in the construe tion, proportion and arrangement of parts, as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention,
over v what claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s:
A ourtznn fixture conslstlng of a rod over Wlnch. the upper end of Lv ourtmn may be secured, a hook adapted to be suspended from a curtain pole, a shank depending from said hook,. a fastener carried by said shank and adapted to engage and support the major portion of a curtain, a stern p rojecting upwardly from said hook, and a fastener associated With said sm and provided with spring-actuated jaws for engaging over the rodr and adapted to engage and support the lower margin of' the. curtain.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
LOUIS' H, REINHARDT.
