Be it known that I, GEORGE F. ERNST, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompany ing drawing, forming part ol this specification.
{, My invention relates to a pipe hanger for suspending pipes in overhead positions, the invention having for its object the production of a pipe hanger of such construction that it may be inexpensively produced, readily applied to its support and fitted to the pipe which it is to suspend with the greatest facility and readiness.
Figure I is a side elevation of one of my pipe hangers with the pipe receiving yoke ol the hanger shown in position ready to receive a pipe. Fig. II is a similar view to Fig. I with the pipe receiving yoke attached to the suspending rod of the hanger in the position assumed for pipe supporting service. Fig. III is in part a plan view of the lower portion of the hanger and in part a horizontal section of the hanger rod taken on line IIIIII, F ig. II. Fig. IV is an elevation of a modification.
1 designates the hanger rod or main member of my pipe hanger which is preferably constructed of wire and which is provided at one of its ends with a hook 2 and at its other end with an eye 3. The lower portion of the hanger rod is preferably curved as seen at 4 so that it will conform to a segment of a pipe that is to be supported by the hanger.
5 designates a yoke of U-shape which is also prererably of wire. This yoke is provided at one of its ends with an eye 6 which engages the eye 3 of the hanger rod, each eye passing transversely through the other eye whereby the yoke 5 is permitted to partake of a pivotal action relative to the hanger rod 1. At the other end of the yoke 5 is a hook 7 which is adapted to be moved to the hanger rod 1 and placed in engagement therewith at the upper end of the curved portion 4 of said rod, whereby both ends of l the yoke are secured to the hanger rod and the yoke is upheld in a position that will cause it to conline a pipe between it and the z lower portion of the hanger rod. After the hook 7 has been applied to the hang-or rod its end is preferably bent inwardly to close the hook, as soon in Fig. III, and prevent the escape ol the book from the rod. The hook 2 at the upper end ol the hanger rod is adapted to be applied to a staple S that may be driven into any supporting member l'rom which the pipe is to be suspended.
In the modification illustrated in Fig. IV, 1 is the hanger rod which is provided at its upper end with an eye 2 that is adapted to receive a nail S by which said rod is secured to the supporting member l'rom which the hanger is suspended, the nail in this instance being used in lieu of the staple S. The remaindcrof the hanger corresponds in construction to that previously described.
I claim:
1. A pipe hangercomprising a wire hanger rod having an upper straight portion and a lower curved portion extending from said straight portion and terminating in an eye, and a wire yoke having an eye at one end passing transversely through the eye ol the hanger rod and having a hook on its other end adapted to i it over the hanger red at the junction of the straight and curved portions of the rod.

A pipe hanger comprising a wire hanger rod having an upper straight portion and a lower curved portion extending lron1 said straight portion and terminating ,in an eye, and a U-shaped wire yoke having an eye at one end passing transversely through the eye 1 of the hanger rod and having a hook on its l other end integral with the yoke and adapted to lit over the hanger red at the junction ol the straight and curved portions ol the rod; said hook having a free end adapted to be hange 1 r d, substantially as set forth,
