SPECIFICATION forming'part of' Letters Patent No. 761,893, dated June '7, 1904;. Application filed July 2, 1903. Serial No. 164,084. (No model.)
T0 a/ZZ whom it maty concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. Linn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for hanging trousers, and has for its objects, first, to take as little room as possible; second, to Vsupport the trousers so that the legsthereof'will hang down straight, and.l third, to construct the device so that it may be placed on the market for small cost. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front View showing lthree of my trousers-hangers mounted on a board, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged side view of one of my trousers-hangers.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout both views.
Tothe board A are secured the straps B,-
preferably made of metal and so shaped as to eXtend out from the board A on a Vertical line at the center and having the slots O cut in their faces. The straps B are in pairs, one above the other, as shown. The ends of the Wire rod Dpass through horizontal slots C and then bend downward between the straps B and the board A. This rod D is bent so that its upper section is approximately straight and horizontal. Then it turns downward and returns to the board A on the curved line, as shown, its outer end being higher than its inner end.
On the lower section of the rod D are slidably secured the clips E and F. The clip E is placed near the board A and the clip F near.
the outer end of the hanger. The shape of the lower section of rod D causes the clip F to be higher than the clip i These clips E and F are kept closed in the usual manner by Springs, and I prefer to have their gripping edges serrated to form teeth which will engage and firmly hold the trousers. The trousers may be hung from the clips, as indicated in the drawings. The clip F is placed higher than the clip E, so that the trousers will hang straight down if the clip E engages the front and clip F the rear of the trousers. The clips can be slid on the rod D, so as to adjust the distance between'them to accommodate trousers of various sizes. The rod D, with the trousers ,hanging therefrom, can swing on the straps B, the slots O therein being wide enough to allow the rod D to swing in either direction against the wall or board What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-.-
l. The combination with a supportingboard, of straps arranged vertically one above another in pairs and secured to said board, of arms consisting of an upper and lower section pivoted respectively'to the upper and lower straps forming a pair, and of pairs of clips secured to said lower sections and adapted to engage and support trousers therefrom.
2. The combination with a supportingboard, of straps arranged verticall y one above another in pairs and securedto said board, of arms consisting of an upper and lower section pivoted respectively to the upper and lower straps forrning a pair said lower section being curved so that its outer end is higher than its inner end, and of pairs of clips adjustably secured to the outer and inner ends of said lower sections and adapted to engage and support trousers therefrom.
3. The 'combination with a supportingboard, of straps consisting of pieces of metal having bends therein on their Vertical center line with horizontal slots through said bends said straps being arranged vertically one above another in pairs and being secured to said board, of arms consisting of an upper and lower section the inner ends of said sections entering said slots and turning downward between said straps and said vboard forming a pivot for said arm the lower sections of said arms being curved so that its outer end is higher than its inner end, and of pairs of clips adjustably secured to the outer and inner ends of said lower sections and 4adapted to engage and support trousers therefrom.
In testimony 'whereof I have signed my name to thisspecification in the presence of two subscribing witnessses.
W. S. LEE.
