HAT HANGER.

Application filed January 4, 1924.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that EUGENE F. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and btate of Kentucky, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat Hangers of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hat hangers and has special reference to a display hanger for hats and caps.

One object of the invention is to provide an improved and simple form for a device of this description.

A second important object of the invention is to provide a hanger of this description made from a single length ,of wire, bent in a novel and improved manner.

A third object of the invent-ion is to provide a novel and improved double hanger made from a single length of wire and adapted to support a pair of hats or caps.

With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.

In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:

Figure 2 is a similar view showing another position of the double hanger.

Figure 3 is a view showing modified form for a single hanger.

In the construction of the invention as shown in Figure 1 a suitable length of wire is taken and this is doubled at its center portion at at 10. The two halves of the wire are bent back so as to lie along side of each other for a suitable distance. Adjacent bend 10 the doubled wire is bent transversely of the plane passing through the axis of the halves so as to form a hook 11. The remaining portion of the doubled wire forms a shank 12 which depends from the hook. The ends of the wire are first bent away from each other and upward to form the U-shaped bends 13. These bends lie in the plane passing through the axes of the Serial No. 684,375.

wire forming the shank 12. The extremities of the wires are then bent at right angles to this plane as at 14 and after extending out a certain distance are rebent to form loop ends 15. The rebent portions extend through said plane and are again rebent to form end loops 16 and terminal portions 17, the latter being in line with those parts of the wire between the bends 14c and 15. In this manner there is formed an upper hook, a shank, and a pair of lower hooks having flat parallel loop ends.

In the form shown in Figure 3 there is illustrated a hanger suitable for a single hat and in this form one end of the wire is bent to form a supporting hook 17. ."Tl16 wire is then bent as at 18 at right angles to the plane of the supporting hook and is next bent at 19 to extend downward and form the shank 20, the part between the bends 18 and 19 forming an offset 21. At the bottom of the shank the wire is bent upwards in a U-shaped bend 22, the outer length 23 being parallel to the shank 20 and lying in the plane of the hook 17. At the upper end of this outer length there is pro vided a flat loop 24 similar to the loop previously described and also lying in the plane of the hook 17. I

at will be obvious that while the device here shown has been made from wire, it may be cast in this form, made from separate parts, either all wood or all metal or part of one and part of the other, and in fact may be made in a variety of ways.

There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.

It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the ma terial spirit thereof. it is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:

hat hanger formed from a single length of wire bent double at its middle to form a pair of parallel lengths, the wire'adjacent the bend being bent into a supporting hook and the remaider of the parallel portions forming a shank, the hook being at bent portions being each bent to form a right angles to a plane passing through the flat loop at right angles to said plane and axes of the shank portions, the ends of said having its longer axis horizontal.
