ISABELLA snow, or JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA;
GARMENT HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,030, dated August 1'1, 190%.
Application filed October 29, 1902. Serial No. 129,306. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ISABELLA SCOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Dnval and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Garment-Hanger,of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices employed for suspending garments of various kinds in closets, wardrobes, and similar localities, and has for its object the production of a simple and convenient device which may be readily applied to the garment to form a hanger thereto and to prevent said hanger from slipping longitudinally upon its support; and the invention consists in the specific details of construction,as hereinafter shown and described and specified in the claim.
In the drawings illustrative of the invention, in which corresponding partsare designated by similar characters, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device detached and disconnected ready for its application to the garment.
The device consists in two portions, a pin portion adapted to be engaged with the garment and a suspension portion extending at right angles from the pin portion in an elongated pointed loop adapted to engage the suspension-hook, so that the garment will be supported in direct vertical alinement from the suspension-loop and lateral movement thereby prevented.
The pin portion of the implement consists in a stationary member 10 in substantial horizontal position, with one end bent into a pingnard coil 11 and the other end formed with a coil 12, the latter extended into a pin 13, spaced from the portion 10 and pointed, as at 14, the pointed end adapted to engage the end pointed or reduced, as at 17, and adapted to engage a suspension-hook or other sup port, as shown at 18.
The loop member is connected to the part 10 by entwisting its sides together adjacent to the part 10, as shown at 19. By this sim-' ple means the loop member 16 is rigidly connected to the pin portion 13 and will be main tained in position transversely thereto, an by reason of the pointed or reduced end 17, which is located directly opposite to the connecting or twisted portion 19 of the pin and loop portions, the garments will be retained in position and all slipping or lateral movement prevented, as the loop member 16 will always center itself and cannot move later= ally upon the suspension means 18, as will be obvious. This is a very important feature of the invention, as the pointed form of the loop 16 insures the maintenance of the pin member constantly in a horizontal position and prevents lateral movement of the garment or the tendency to crowd toward one end of the pin portion.
The loop 16 may be formed of any size relative to the other parts; but the proportions illustrated have been found in practice to meet the requirements of the device.
The wire employed in constructing the device may be of any desired gage and of any suitable material, either brass, steel, or other I metal.
The device may be employed for suspending garments of any kind, but is more particularly designed for suspending skirts and similar garments and avoids the necessity for providing skirts and other garments with suspension loops, which are liable to be broken and weakened by wear and constant use, whereas with the improved device the garments may be suspended without danger of the suspension means breaking or becoming displaced.
Another advantage of this device is that it may be applied to any part of the garment and any number. may be employed and located at any desired point to suspend the garment in position to retain its shape and contour.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is- A garment-hanger composed from asingle piece of metal and comprising an attachingmy own I have hereto affixed my signature in pin and an integral elongated 100p disposed the presence of two witnesses. centrally of and with its lon itudinal axis at right angles to the attachin g-pin, said 100p ISABELLA SCOTT 5 lying in a common plane with the pin and Witnesses:
having its upper end reduced. NONIE W. Col'r,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as LOUISE B. MOIVER.
