TICKET 0R TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed July 24. 1905. Serial No. 271.074.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. OBRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin,.have invented new and useful Improvements in Tickets or Tags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in tickets or tags particularly for attaching or affixing to dry goods in the piece or other object.
Said invention has for its object principally to isolate or conceal the point of the ticket or tag attaching or affixing pin or fastening, and to accomplish the same in a simple and effective manner.
It consists of certain structuralfeatures substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and specifically pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 2 is a like view thereof, with the flap or guard extended, the attaching pin being removed. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the invention. Fig. 1 is a detached perspective view of the pin or fastening removed, in the form it is caused to assume for effectiveness, as when affixing the tag to the goods or object designed to bear the same. Fig. 4 is also a like View of the pin or fastening in its initial form or before application for use. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modi= fication of the invention. Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. 5, on an enlarged scale to more clearly indicate the exact position of the fastening pin. Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional View thereof. Fig. 7 is a detached perspective view of the pin or fastening in its final form, as when affixing or attaching the tag to thegoods or article to be labeled. Fig. 8 is also a like view of the pin or fastening in its initial form or before application.
In the carrying out my invention, I provide a tag or ticket 1 of paste-board, cardboard, or other material suitable for the purpose, preferably of two equal sized folded portions constituting the body proper and a flap or guard 1.
An attaching pin or fastening 2, for connecting the tag or ticket 1 to the dry-goods sample or other object, is suitably appliedto said ticket or tag, and has its point-equipped portion bent upon itself, Where said pin is engaged with or stuck into the piece or sample of goods, the latter thus being inserted.
and held between the body portion of the ticket and the flap or guard isolating the pinpoint. The memoranda or data referring to the goods-sample is of course, indicated upon the flap or guard the latter being presented to the front. One limb or the shank ortion of said pin is initially inserted or em edded in the body-portion of said ticket or tag, previous to such bending of the pin, with the oint brought forward and projecting thererom and presented next to, or under the flap 1, whereby the pin-point will be isolated from contact with, and be prevented from puncturing the hands in handling the sample, bearing the ticket or tag. The headend of the pin or-fastening 1 is preferably formed by coiling the same into flat disk-like form as at 1 said head-end portion, as it is bent over the upper edge of the ticket, as it is, permits the thus formed flat disk-like head to lie flat upon and clasp the flap 1 in position over the pin-point. By this arrangement it is also observed that by suitably manipulating the parts the attaching pin may be readily reached for effecting its withdrawal from the goods or sample and the consequent detachment or removal of the ticket.
This ticket or tag is especially adapted or effective for use in connection with samples of goods of the character herein named.
In the modification as illustrated by Figs. 5, 6 and 7, it is noted that a pin 3 produced somewhat after the fashion of a staple may be substituted in lieu of the foregoing form of pin. In this instance, the pin-point is duplicated while the bowed portion of the pin or staple is bent in like manner and for like purpose as the head-end of the aforesaid. pin.
I claim:
1. A ticket or tag of the character described, having a foldable flap or guard and. an attaching pin or fastening for said ticket, bent u on itself, with its shank embedded in the ticket and its point-equipped portion interposed between the body and flap portions of the ticket for the I urpose stated, the head or upper end of said pin being bent upon said flap and securing it in position.
2. A ticket of the character described, having a foldable' flap portion and an attaching pin of general staple-like outline, with its duplicate shank portions embedded in said ticket and its duplicate point-equipped portions standing out therefrom and effective lIO In testiniony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS H. OBRIEN.
