Beit known that I, FOREST S. Ciinrwnron'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massage Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains .to make and use the same.

This invention relates to massage devices.

One object of the invention is to provide an exceedingly simple, inexpensive, durable, and efficient device particularly designed for treating the skin of the face.

Another object resides in the provision of a device embodying such characteristics that the skin of the face may be readily pinched and worked upwardly without inconvenience or discomfort to the patient during the removal of impurities from the skin.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.

-Referring more particularly to the drawings, the frame of the device is shown as comprising upper and lower members a and I), each of which consists of end pieces 1 and 2, connected intermediate their ends by a strip 3, the outer edges of the end pieces 1 1 and 2 2 being connected by strips and'd, respec tively. The upper strips or pieces 1 and 2 are each provided with a series of openings which form racks, there being a break 5 in the line of each set of openings, whereby two sets of spaced racks 4 and 5 are formed for a purpose presently specified.

Hand- frames 6 and 7 are mounted at each side of the device, and each has a member 8 provided with outwardly-turned ears 9 and 10., which outwardly-turned ears are designed to fit between the upper and lower members a and b of the frame. The ears 9 and 10 of each hand-frame are provided with alining perforations for the rotatable reception of the rods 11 and 12, which latter arearranged parallel with the members 8 of the handframes and in spaced relation thereto, as shown.

Each rod carries a pair of gears 18 and 14, disposed toward its opposite ends adjacent the inner faces of the bent cars 9 and 10, the gears on the rod 1 1 being in engagement with the openings forming the racks 4, while the gears on the rod 12 engage the racks 5. The outer ends of the rods 11 and 12 extend some distance beyond the end pieces 1 of the frame and are provided with rubber fingers 15 and 16, having pointed ends 17 and longitudinal grooves or corrugations.

The hand- frames 6 and 7 and rods 11 and 12 may thus be moved transversely with respect to the frame toward or away from each other, whereby the rods and their fingers will be rotated, owing to the engagement of the racks and gears, as readily understood.

Owing to the provision on each finger of a wooden core 18, having a rectangular socket 19, in which the corresponding shaped outer ends 20 of the rods fit, accidental displace ment of said fingers therefrom is prevented.

In the use of the device the fingers fit in the hand-frame 6 and the thumb in the hand-frame 7, when the rods and frame may be drawn toward or from each other by closing or opening the hand scissors fashion, thus causing the fingers (through the engagement of the gears and racks) to rotate toward each other, the finger 16 rotating clockwise and the finger 15 counter-cloekwise. This movement of the fingers will cause the same to pick up the flesh and skin and act upon the latter in such a way as to eject the impurities from the pores thereof as the skin and flesh are squeezed up between the fingers as they come together, sinking away as the device is moved slowly over the face. During such movement of the device the opening and closing of the hand is continued, as will be understood, the closing of the hand causing the rods to move toward each other, effecting the rotation of the fingers thereon, as above described.

Owing to the formation of the grooves or corrugations upon the fingers, the removal of impurities from the pores of the skin will be greatly facilitated, as the sinking of the ridges into the skin as the latter is picked up by the fingers and the consequent filling of the hollows or grooves will exercise considerable pulling or dragging action upon the skin as the latter leaves the rollers and the device is passed over the face, thus squeezing the skin more effectively than would be possible if the outer faces of the fingers were made smooth.

Continued use of the device will obviously result in the removal of wrinkles, as well as of the impurities, thereby improving the complexion and the contour of the face.

l/Vhat is claimed is 1. A massage device comprising a frame having upper and lower members connected together in spaced relation, one of said members having spaced racks at each end thereof; hand-frames mounted for movement transversely of the frame and projecting at each end between said spaced members; rods rotatably mounted in said projecting ends of the hand members; gear-wheels mounted upon each rod for engagement with the said racks; and a finger member carried at the outer end of each of said rods, whereby upon movement of the hand members toward or from each other, the rods carried thereby may be rotated.

2. A massage device comprising a frame having upper and lower members connected together in spaced relation, one of said members having spaced racks at each end thereof; hand-frames mounted for movement transversely of the frame and projecting at each end between said spaced members; rods rotatably mounted in said projecting ends of the hand members; gear-wheels mounted upon each rod for engagement with the said racks and a finger. member carried at the outer end of said rods, each finger member being corrugated longitudinally, whereby upon movement of the hand members toward or from each other, the rods carried thereby may be rotated.

3. A massage device comprising a frame having upper and lower members connected together in spaced relation, one of said mem bers having spaced racks at each end thereof; hand-frames mounted for movement transversely of the frame and projecting at each end between said ,spaced members; rods rotatably mounted in said projecting ends of the hand members; gear-wheels mounted upon each rod for engagement with the said racks, and a finger member carried at the outer end of said rods, each finger being of flexible material and pointed at its outer end and provided with corrugations formed longitudinally throughout its length, whereby upon movement of the hand members toward or from each other, the rods carried thereby may be rotated.

4. A massaging device comprising a frame having spaced members, hand members mounted for movement transversely of the frame, spaced rods carried by said hand members and movable therewith transversely of said frame, connections between the rods and frame whereby the rods may be rotated toward each other, and finger members mounted upon the outer ends of said rods.

5. A massaging device comprising a frame having spaced members, hand members mounted for movement transversely of the frame, spaced rods carried by said hand members and movable therewith transversely of said frame, connections between the rods and frame whereby the rods may be rotated toward each other, and finger members mounted upon the outer ends of said rods, said fingers being corrugated to form ridges.

6. A massaging device comprising a frame having spaced 'members, hand members mounted for movement transversely of the frame, spaced rods carried by said hand members and movable therewith transversely of the said frame, connections between the rods and frame whereby the rods may be rotated toward each other, and finger members mounted upon the outer ends of said rods,

said fingers being of flexible material pointed at their outer ends and corrugated throughout their lengths.

7. A massage implement comprising a frame having spaced members, hand members mounted for movement transversely of the frame, spaced rods mounted for movement transversely of the frame upon move ment of the hand members, means whereby the rods may be rotated toward each other, and a flexible finger member carried at the outer end of each of said rods.
