BOTTLE AND JAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed December 22, 1904. Serial No. 287,920l.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OoRNELrUs J. DALY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles and Jars; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottles and jars so molded as to provide a small chamber or pocket therein.
The object of the invention is to so mold a bottle or jar as to provide a small narrow chamber or pocket extending inwardly adj acent to one of the walls of the bottle or jar in such position that a label or trade-mark placed therein may be readily read from the outside of the bottle, while at the same time it is protected against injury or fraud, the width of the pocket being such as to hold the label in upright position therein.
Figure 1 of the accomp anying drawings represents a side elevation of a bottle embodying one form of this invention with parts broken out and the pocket shown in vertical section. Fig. 2 represents a front elevation of the bot tle shown in Fig. 1 with parts broken out to show a front view of the pocket. Fig. 3 represents a front elevation of the bottle, show ing two pockets arranged at different points and Fig. 4 represents a bottom plan view of a bottle, showing a pocket-opening which extends vertically upward and a horizontallydisposed pocket shown in dotted lines.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a bottle 1 has a narrow chamber or pocket 2 extending vertically inward from its shoulder 3 in close proximity to the side wall 4 thereof. This pocket 2 is closed at its bottom and open at its top through the outer surface of the bottle to permit insertion of a label or trade-mark. After the label, trade-mark, or other article is placed within the pocket 2 the opening therein is sealed in any desired manner. I
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 and 4 a pocket 5 is arranged to extend horizontally from the shoulder 3 of the bottle, and another pocket 6 extends vertically upward from the bottom 7 of the bottle.
I claim as my invention 1. A bottle or jar having a narrow transparent pocket extending inward adjacent to one of its walls and in close proximity thereto for receiving a label and holding it in position therein to be read through the wall of the bottle.
2. A bottle or jar having a narrow pocket extending vertically inward from the shoulder thereof and in close proximity with one of its side walls for receiving a label and holding it in position to be read through the wall of the bottle.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CORNELIUS J. DALY.
