Description

No. 862,799. 7 PATENTED AUG. 6, 1907. E. F. BRANCH. NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.

EMHETT F. BRANCH, OF MARTINSVILLE, INDIANA.
NON-REFILLAB LE BOTTLE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1907.
Application filed April 25, 1907. Serial No. 370,269.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMETT F. BRANCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Martinsville, in the county of Morgan and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refill able Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a non-refillable bottle; and the object of the invention is to provide bottles of the above mentioned'character with means so that alter the bottles have been drained of their contents they cannot be refilled with spurious imitations.
I accomplish the object of my invention by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing which consists of a vertical central sectional view of a bottle provided with my improved non-refillable device, in which 1 constitutes the body which is contracted at its upper end to form the neck 2. The upper and internal wall of the bottle neck 2 is formed in a conically shaped manner, its dimensions being less at the bottom than at the top. A stopper 5, composed of suitable material, corresponds to and fits the internal tapering wall of the neck when'in normal position, the top of the stopper being slightly below the upper edge of the bottle neck.
A cap 10 is cemented or otherwise secured to the bottle neck, and the cap is provided with an outlet orifice 12, cut on reverse angles, to produce an irregular channel so that the introduction of an article of a foreign nature to interfere with the normal action of the stopper is prevented. Fearing that a flexible wire or similar article might be forced through the irregularly formed orifice 12, the smooth walls of said orifice lending assistance, I further reduce such a possibility in providing one of the projecting ledges forming the irregular orifice 12 with a series of ribs 14 which extend transversely to the direction in which the orifice is cut, so that a wire or similar article introduced from the outside would engage the ribs, when farther insertion thereof would be prevented.
The cap 10 is provided at one side with a shoulder 15 which rests upon the upper edge of the bottle neck 2 and determines the distance the bottle neck can be inserted into the cap 10. It will be noted that after the cap 10 occupies its normal position with relation to the bottle neck, the shoulder 15 will stand slightly above the top of the stopper 5. This shoulder determines the amount of play afforded the stopper, so that when the bottle is tilted to one side the stopper will be allowed to abut said shoulder, and by means of its conically shaped sides it will draw away from the internal wall of the bottle neck and thus leave a passageway for the liquid to escape from the bottle. When the bottle is righted the stopper 5 will drop into its normal position and close the passage leading into the bottle.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a bottle or similar article, of a cap adapted to be secured to the bottle neck and provided with an irregularly formed orifice, ribs formed upon one of the ledges forming the irregular orifice, said ribs ex tending transversely to the direction in which said orifice is cut, and a stopper for the bottle.
2. The combination with a bottle or similar article, of a cap adapted to be secured to the bottle neck and provided with an irregularly formed orifice, ribs formed upon one of the ledges forming the irregular orifice, said ribs extending transversely to the direction in which said orifice is cut, a stopper, and a shoulder formed within said cap and adapted to limit both the movement of the stopper and the insertion of the bottle neck.
The combination with a bottle or similar article, of a cap adapted to be secured to the bottle neck and provided with an irregularly formed orifice, ribs formed upon one of the ledges formingthe irregular orifice, a conically shaped stopper, and a shoulder formed within said cap and adapted to limit both the movement of the stopper and the insertion of the bottle neck.
