UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
XVILLIE WASHINGTON HOLLAND, OF BREMOND, TEXAS.
BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part'of Letters Patent No. 706,056, dated August 5, 1902.
Application filed April 18,1902.
T0 at whom it vnay c0nccrn:
Be it known that I, WILLIE WASHINGTON HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bremond, in the county of Robertson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to that class of bottles known as non-refillable bottles; and my object is to produce a bottle of this type of as few parts as possible, of especially economical construction, and one which can be readily filled and emptied in a simple manner. It is also my object to provide a bottle of this type having instead of a stopper a closed neck with a vulnerable portion which is readily accessible and can be easily mutilated to discharge the liquid and yet be shielded from accidental breakage and to so arrange said portion that the broken glass therefrom will be discharged and conducted outside of the bottle by a channel having an outlet separate from the bottles mouth.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a vertical section of my non-refillable bottle, and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the neck.-
Referring more particularly to the drawings, A denotes the body of the bottle, which may be of any desired shape, provided with' an opening a in its bottom portion through which it is filled. The opening a is closed by a glass stopper which is glued or cemented in said opening or by annealing the opening.
B denotes the neck of the bottle, terminating at its upper end in a solid portion b, which is formed integral with the neck.
I) 1) denote two knobs formed integral with the neck at one side and project horizontally therefrom for the purposes hereinafter mentioned. I have shown two knobs, but any number may be used.
0 denotes a false neck made integral with the neck proper and forms with the upper Serial No. 103,570. (No model.)
portion of the neck proper the mouth of the bottle.
0 denotes an opening at the bottom of the false neck arranged at a point below the knobs b b for the purpose hereinafter named. The false neck acts as a shield to prevent accidental breakage of said knobs.
To open the bottle, any hard substance, such as apocket-knife or other convenient implement, is-passed down through the mouth of the bottle into the false neck and pressed or struck against the knobs Z) Z) until they break off, thus forming one or more openings in the side of the neck. As said knobs project horizontally into the false neck when severed fromthe neck proper, they fall into the false neck and are carried by gravity through the opening 0 clear of the bottle. Thus all danger of broken glass passing inside the bottle is avoided, as Well as the dan ger of passing it through the mouth of the bottle into the receiving vessel.
Having thus shown and described my in vention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A bottle having a closed neck formed in tegral with the bottle, a vulnerable portion to said neck, a shield for said vulnerable portion formed integral with the neck and serving also as the mouth of the bottle, and means for filling and sealing the bottle.
2. A bottle having a closed neck formed integral with the bottle, a vulnerable portion to said neck accessible through the mouth of the bottle, a false neck or shield for said vulnerable portion forming the mouth of the bottle and also a passage-way to conduct the broken glass from the bottle mouth, and means for filling and sealing the bottle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIE WASHINGTON HOLLAND.
