Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern lie it known that I, EMORY BRADSHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Unionville, in the county of Putnam and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to containers, and more particularly to non-refillable bottles.
The object of the invention is to. provide a bottle of this character which may be readily emptied but may not be refilled, and the parts of which will not in any wise aflfect the contents of the bottle.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple and cheap to manufacture, thereby especially adapting it for use with cheaper grade materials as well as with the more expensive kinds.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a vertical section through the upper portion of a bottle and its neck with this invention shown applied, with the parts in the position which they as suine before the removal of the cork when the bottle is in upright position,
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. l with the cork shown removed and the bottle tilted for discharging its contents.
In the embodiment illustrated a bottle B is shown having the usual neck N Which is equipped on its interior near its connection with the bottle with an annular groove 1 for a purpose presently to be described. This bottle neck is also threaded interiorly at its inner end as at 2 to receive a threaded stopper 3. This stopper 3 is made of glass or any suitable non-corrodible material, and has a bore 4 extending therethrough to receive an auxiliary stopper 1O presently to be described. The stopper 3 also is provided with an annular series of longitudinally eX- tending bores 5 arranged concentrlc with the bore 4. which are designed for the discharge ofthe contents of the bottle when tilted as is shown in Fig. 3. The outer end of the stopper 3 is cupshaped to receive a correspondingly shaped head 11 of the auxiliary stopper or float 10. This float 10 is made hollow and of glass and the cup-shaped head 11 thereof has a shank l2 projecting inwardly from its conveXed outer face and adapted to be slidably mounted in the bore 4 of stopper 3. y
A baffle plate 6 is mounted on the outer end of the stopper 3 and is concave-convex in form, the periphery thereof being apertured as shown at 6 to permit the free passage of liquid thereby when the bottle is tilted. The stopper 3 also has a groove 7 positioned to register with the groove 1 in the bottle neck when the stopper 3 is in operative position as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Mounted in this registering groove is a packing 8 preferably composed of cork, although obviously it may be of any suitable material, and when inserted it will prevent the removal of stopper 3.
A cork 9 is to be inserted in the outer end of the bottle neck N after the bottle has been filled, and the stopper 3 placed in position. \When it is desired to remove the contents of the bottle, all that is necessary is to take out cork 9 and to tilt the bottle in the position shown in Fig. 3, which will cause the auxiliary stopper or float 10 to move outward iiito the position shown in said figure thereby opening the outer ends of the bores 5 which are normally closed by the cup-shaped hen d 11 of the member 10. The contents of the bottle will then flow out through the bores 5 past the head 11 and baffle plate 6 and be discharged through the mouth of the bottle.
When the bottle is righted, the float 10 will drop back into the position shown in Fig. 1, thus closing the bores 5, protecting the contents of the bottle and preventing refilling thereof.
From the above description it will be obvious that a bottle equipped with this improvement will be entirely sanitary according to the nature of the material of which the stopper and its cooperating parts are constructed.
The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove eXpe dient and fall Within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a bottle having a neck internally threaded near its inner end With an annular groove formed in said threaded portion; of a stopper threaded to engage the threaded portion of said neck and having a groove to register with the groove in the neck, a packing mounted in said registering groove When the stopper is in operative position, aid stopper having its outer end hollowed out in the form of a cup and provided With a centrally disposed bore and a plurality of concentric bores disposed around said central bore, a bafl'le plate car ried by the upper end of said stopper and apertured adjacent its periphery, and a cup shaped float having a stern mounted to slide in the central bore of said stopper, said float normally overlying the concentric apertures of the stopper and closing them, the float being smaller than the baflie plate so that when the bottle is inverted, the contents may pass out through the concentric bores ol the stopper and the apertures in said ballle plate.
