Description
PATENTED SEPT. 12, 1905.
A. R. L. DOHME.
DISPLAY PACKAGE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 23,1904.
E jBal-l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED R. L. DOHME, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
DISPLAY-PACKAGE.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ALFRED R. L. DOHME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Packages, of which the following is a specification.
Y My invention relates to an improvement in paper packages, the object being to provide a closure with an opening in it for the purpose of exhibiting the contents of the box without removing the cover.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the box with a cover on. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the cover removed, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.
A represents a box, and B is the cover. Either the box or cover is provided with a slot C, which extends across its face, as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 in the cover and in dotted lines in the same figure in the box, as the slot might be formed in either the cover or the box, its purpose being to render the articles carried by the box visible from the outside without the necessity of removing the cover. The box, it will be observed, is reduced in size at its upper or open end to receive the cover B, the lower or open end of which engages the shoulder 1, formed at the juncture of the reduced portion and the body of the box. The article constitutes a bottlecase. The box thus constructed is adapted to contain bottles D D or similar articles, as indicated in the several figures of the drawings. These bottles or other articles are held frictionally in place by the corrugated backing E,

' which forms the box into a number of cells,
one for each bottle or other article.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the condition of the goods and what the articles are may be seen at all times from the outside, thus obviating the necessity of removing the cover to inspect the contents. In this way a simple and attractive receptacle is provided for holding the articles in position so that they will not rattle together or break, while at the same time they can be seen at all times from the outside Without removing the cover. Of course other articles besides bottles might be carried in this way without altering the nature of the invention.
It is also evident that slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth; but,
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, a combined shipping and display package comprising a box and cover one of which has an opening cut therethrough on one wall thereof for exhibiting the contents therein contained and a corrugated packing within the box, disposed against the opposite wall of the box to firmly hold the contents in position against the opening and for preventing the breaking of the articles in the course of transit, all in combination substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED R. L. DOHME.
