Description

UN IT ED STATES PATENTIOFFIOE.
CHARLES J. BARRENPOI-IL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMPOUND FOR CLEANING AND POLISHING WOOD SURFACES.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BARREN- POHL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York,
have invented a new and Improved Comound for Cleaning and Polishing Wood Surfaces, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention is an improved composition of matter for cleaning and olishing wood surfaces of all kinds having or objects, prii marily, to produce a compound that will not only effectually remove finger-marks and other collected dirt without affecting the f wood, but will simultaneously with its appli- 5 cation give the surface a high retaining polish and in addition close up the small openings in the grain of the wood, thus perform- 1 in the function of a wood-filler.
T accomplish the above objects by myl cleaning and polishing compound, consisting of Whiting, crude oil, lard-oil, and parailing wax combined in the following pro ort-ions and in the manner hereinafter outlined: In l any suitable vessel is placed one pound of ara'iiin-wax, which is heated until the same is entirely liquefied. To this is thereafter added three and one-half pints of crude oil I as, for example, etroleumand three and one-half pints of lard-oil, which are, well mixed, when twenty-one and one-third pounds of whiting are added, and the whole stirred until the ingredients are thoroughly intermingled, when the compound is ready for use.
The compound is applied to the surface of the wood by rubbing it on with a cloth or 'i other device, the whiting acting to cut the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 19, 190%,, Serial No. 348,504.
Patented March 12, 1907.
Z dirt, which is softened and dissolved by the 0 crude oil. The lard-oil gives the crude oil a body and renders the polish given by the compound harder and more lasting. The
. wax gives the surface a high polish, for which purpose it is added. The whiting in addi- 5 tion to cuttingthe dirt from the surface of the wood enters the small cracks, crevices,
3 &c., in the grain of the same and provides an I effectual wood-filler. In this connection the whiting may, if desired, be colored by any 50 suitable pigment in order that it may harmonize with the wood on which it is used.
Although the proportions of ingredients 'hereinbefore indicated are found to give the best results, I regard the colorable varia- 55 i tions as falling within the scope of myinvention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1.. The. herein-described compound for cleaning, filling and polishing wood surfaces, containing whiting, lard-oil and crude oil, combined in substantially the proportions set forth. 6
2. The hereindescribed compound for cleaning, filling and polishing wood surfaces, consisting of wl'iiting, lard-oil, crude oil and paraffin-wax, combined in substantially the 1, proportions set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my i name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES J. BARRENPOHL.
