The invention relates to a composition for dressing leather goods or articles and more particularly the class of harness dressing.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a dressing which shall have the qualities of preserving leather when applied thereto as well as rendering the same waterproof and producing a polished surface to the leather without consequent injury resulting from the use of the composition.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a composition for leather dressing which can be readily and easily applied and that will not rub or soil parts which may contact with the dressing when applied and that will preserve finish and render the leather water-proof.
The improved composition is preferably compounded substantially in the proportions hereinafter given, although they may be varied without departing from the spirit of the invention. The proportions of the ingredients used being as follows:
Specification of Letters Patent.

The composition is formed by melting the petroleum then putting therein the castor oil, glue, gum tragacanth, ivory black, black oil, and logwood. Then stir the mixture thoroughly until it gets to any desired 'degree of temperature to arrive at the required fluidity whereupon the mixture is removed for subsequent use.
It is of course understood that the named ingredients are to be mixed substantially in the proportions specified.
The black oil employed as one ingredient in the dressing is made of 50 per cent. coal tar color and 50 per cent. oleic acid.
lVhat is claimed is:
The herein described composition of matter consisting of petroleum, black oil, castor oil, gum tragacanth, ivory black, logwood, and glue prepared in the manner and in substantially the proportions specified.
In testimony whereof, I atlix my signa ture, in presence of two witnesses.
REUBEN F. MEADER.
