Be it known that I, FRANKLIN A. NDIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greeley, in the county of Weld and State of Oolorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a specification.

My improvement relates to trusses, and consists in means for securing an extended bearing for the waist strap or belt that will prevent it from cutting the body and permitting a certain amount of play of a portion of the band in connection with the body without displacing the pad and in means for seouring and adjusting the pad and holding it in proper position, to which end I construct the article as fully set forth hereinafter and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a truss embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 illustrates the truss extended upon a smaller scale than Fig. 1. Fig. '3 is a detached view of the tongue of the truss-pad. Fig. 4 illustrates the connection of the pad with the band in different positions.

The waistband A consists of the strap a and an inner strip 1), wider than the strap a, but not so long as said strap and of soft pliable materialas, for instance, soft leather of double thicknessand the strap or belt a is secured to the strip I) at different pointsas, for instance, by sewing at the points 1., 2, and el-and at the point 3 it passes through a loop 0. The free end of the belt has holes or openings 6, adapted to connect said end to studs d d at the opposite end of the belt which is secured to the strip 1) at the point f.

The pad E, of any suitable construction, is provided with means whereby it can be secured to the band at different angles. Different means may be employed; but, as

shown, the pad is provided with or secured to a tonguef, having openings i t, adapted to receive the studs (Z d. By so placing the tongue that the studs (1 (1 pass through the lower openings i the pad will hang straight. By removing the tongue to carry it from the stud d and then shifting it so that the upper opening i can be applied to said stud the pad may be swung to the right in the position shown in full lines, Fig. 4, or by carrying the stud cl out of the lower opening i and passing it through the upper opening '5 the pad may be swung to the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 4.

To the pad E is connected the usual strap G, and the latter may be connected at its free end with the band A in different positions. One means of securing this result consists in providing the belt a toward the rear with a series of openings h, in either of which a stud j may be placed, said stud adapted to openings in the end of the strap. It is desir-able to carry the lower edge of the pad inward to cause it to bear firmly against the body, and I therefore insure the connection of the strap G to this edge. One means of securing this result is to provide the pad at its lower edge with a loop 7:.

As the inner strip 1) is connected to the belt a only at separated points, the belt may be drawn tight, so as to hold the pad fixedly in place; but the strip 1) may slip to a certain extent independently of the belt to accompany the mowment of the wearer, thus avoid ing the cutting and objectionable results which ensue from drawing a belt tightly in contact with the person of the wearer. The wider strip also secures a better bearing with less cutting effect. The adjustment of the pad to different angles also insures the pressure directly at the right point, and the extension of the strap G across the face of the pad and connecting it to the lower end of the same enables the pad to be pressed inward at the lower edge to secure the desired proper support. The adjustment of the end of the strap to different positions at or about the rear of the band also adapts the pad for use by different persons, and it will be seen that byrevcrsing the band it maybe adapted for either the right or left side, the pad of course being reversed and applied in proper position in either case.

\Vithout limiting myself to the precise construction and arrangement shown, I claim The combination with the waist-belt of a truss, of studs thereon, a pad, and a tongue connected with the pad and having openings in different positions to engage the studs with the tongue either on vertical or inclined lines, substantially as set forth.
