Description

GABRIEL CIOOIOLA, OF FORT LEAVENWRTH, KANSAS.
LEGG-ING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented sept. 29, 190s.
Application led J'une 26, 1908. Serial No. 440,467.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known `that I, GABRIEL CrocioLA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Leavenworth, in the county of Leavenworth and State of Kansas, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Leggings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has for its object to provide a legging which is of such construction that it may be quickly fastened or unfastened, but which, when in use, will be strongly and securely held by the fastening strap. To this end a forked strap is attached at its forked ends to one edge of a piece of leather' or other material which constitutes the body of the legging, at or near the top and bottom of said body, said strap being of suitable length so that it can be wound `around said body when the latter is rol-led into proper shape, and thus the single endof said strap may be secured by a single buckleor equiva-4 lent fastening device located at the middle part of the legging.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved legging in a loose or partly unrolled condition, and Fig. 2 is a view of the same rolled up and fastened, as when in use.A
Referring to the drawings, 12 denotes a piece of leather, canvas or other suitable material which is to constitute the body of the legging, and which may have a suitable lining, if desired. Suitably attached to one edge of the body 12, near the top and-bottom thereof, is a forked strap 13 terminating at' its free end in a single part 14 preferably having a series of holes for connection with a buckle 15 attached to the body 12 near the other edge thereof and about midway vertically of the said body.`4 Instead of the buckle 15 any other equivalent fastening may be used, if desired. The body 12 is preferably provided near its edge to which the forked strap is attached with a longitudi` nally disposed slit 16 for the reception of a longitudinally disposed rigid wire loop or staple 17 secured to the said body near its opposite edge, so that when the legging is to be put on by the -wearer the said loop or staple will be passed through the said slit in such a manner as to serve as a holder for the single portion 14 of the strap when the latter is connected with the buckle as shown in Fig. 2. The said loop or staple also serves to hold the legging from being compressed or rolled too tightly about the leg of the wearer when the strap is tightened around the body ofthe legging. The said loop or staple, in coperation with the strap, also serves to hold the overlapping part of the legging securely in place and thus acts to prevent it from working up and down, independently of the underlying art, when the le ing isin use.
From t e foregoing it w be obvious that a single forked strap connected to one edge of the legging, as shown and described, will, when wound around the legging as shown in Fig. 2, serve to firmly support and secure the same; and as the said strap is held in place by a single fastening device or buckle-it will be obvious that the legging may be quickly put on or removed; while the loop 17, passing through the slit 16, will serve to prevent the legging from hugging the leg of the wearer too vtightly when the strap is drawn tight to properly secure the legging in place.
Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A legging consisting of a body ortion hav- -ing near one edge a longitudina ly disposed slit and provided near its other edge with a fastening device and also with a longitudinally disposed rigid loop or staple adapted to pass through said slit, combined with a forked strap arranged to pass circumferentially around the legging and the ends of the forked part of which strap are attached to one edge of said body portion at or near the top and bottom thereof, and the single or free part of which strap is to pass through said loop or staple and` is to be connected with said body by said fastening device. y
In testimony whereof I ai'lix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
GABRIEL CIOCIOLA. Witnesses:
JOSEPH PINQUARD, MICHELE SGARLETTO.
