Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 18, 1906.
Application filed September 4, 1906. Serial No. 333,219.
T0 all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that 1, ERNEST KINNEBREW, a i
citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have in- `vented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in toys; and the invention has for its object to provide a novel toy adapted to afford considerable amusement to children.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simple, attractive, and durable toy wherein two miniature burlesque figures are made to seesaw and give forth a sound at each oscillation of the seesaw.
lVith the above and other objects in view, which will more readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described in detail and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved toy, the handle thereof being broken away. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opposite side of the toy. Fig. 3 is a plan of the toy, and Fig. il is a cross-sectional view of the toy.
To put my invention into practice, I construct the toy of a T-shaped frame 1, having a suitable handle 2. Two wheels 3 are journaled on the cross-head 4 of the frame, whereby the toy can be pulled or propelled over a floor or the ground. The wheels 3 are provided with crank-pins 5, the object of which will presently be described.
The frame 1 is provided with a transverse bar 6, and pivoted at the ends of the bar are two rods 7, which have their rear ends connected to the crank-pins 5 by connectingbars 8. Fulcrumed upon the bar 6 adjacent to the rods 7 are beams 9 and 10, the forward ends of the beams being connected to the rods 7 by crank-arms 11. Upon the ends of the beams are mounted miniature burlesque figures 12, two of said figures being provided with hammers or mallets 14, adapted to strike a bell 15, mounted upon the frame 1 between the beams 9 and 10.
Pivotally mounted centrally of the bar 9 is a vertically-disposed frame 16, representing a fence or railing. The frame 16 is oscillated by the rods 7 striking the ends of the frame. The frame 1 is provided with a depending leg 17 to support the handle of the toy in an elevated position when the toy is at rest.
As the toy is pulled or propelled over a surface the revolving wheels 3 impart an oscillatory movement to the rods 7 through the medium of the connecting-bars 8, and as said rods are oscillated a similar movement is imparted to the beams 9 and 10. As the beams 9 and 10 are oscillated the figures 12, carrying the hammers or mallets 14, will strike the bell 15, and the rods 7 at each oscillation will strike the ends of the frame 16 and oscillate said frame upon the bar 6.
The toy can be constructed of metal or wood and the burlesque figures highly ornamented to present an attractive appearance.
that I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A toy consisting of a T-shaped frame having a handle, wheels journaled upon said frame, a transverse bar carried by said frame, rods pivotally mounted in the ends of said bar, connecting-bars connecting said rods and said wheels, beams fulcrumed upon said transverse bar and connecting with said rods, a frame pivotally mounted upon said bar and oscillated by said rods, burlesque figures mounted upon the ends of said beams, a bell mounted upon said frame, between said beams and adapted to be struck by two of said figures, substantially as described.
