EDWARD G. FREY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
TRUNDLING TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 8, 1908.
Application filed May 13, 1908. Serial No. 432,716.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, EDWARD G. FREY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at -Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trundling Toys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanyin drawing.
This invention reTates to trundling toys, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a novel toy the design and operation of which is adapted to afford considerable amusement to juveniles.
A further object of this invention is to provide a toy that can be easily propelled to actuate a figure mounted upon the toy and cause the same to perform certain movements. To this end, I have devised a toy that is used similar to the sport of rolling hoop a wheel similar to a hoo being used. The wheel is pro elled by a suitable handle rod or stick an upon this handle rod or stick are located one or more figures adapted to be actuated by a pitman connection with the wheel. The figures can be of a grotesque design and so connected to the han dle rod or stick that the movement imparted to said figures by the wheel will cause said figures to perform certain gymnastics that will be pleasing to the eye and attractive to juveniles.
My invention will be further considered in detail and reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toy constructed with one figure, and Fig. 2 is a similar View illustrating two figures.
In the accompanying drawings 1 designates a handle rod or stick. J ournaled upon the end of said rod or stick by a in 2 is awheel 3 having spokes 4. The hand e rod or stick 1 adjacent to the wheel 3 is provided with a vertical slot 5 in which is guided an upright 6. The lower end of the upright 6 is pivotally connected by a pin 7 to a pitman 8 and to a link 9, the former being pivotally connected to one of-the spokes 4 by a pin 10 and the latter to the handle rod or stick 1 by a pin 11.
Suitably secured to the upper end of the upright 6 is a body 12 having jointed arms 13 and legs 14, said legs being pivotally connected to the handle rod or stick 1, as at 15, while the arms 13 are pivotally connected to the upper sections of the legs 14, as at 16. As shown in the drawings, the body 12, arms 13, and legs 14 represent a grotesque figure, and in this connection I reserve the right to use any design of figure with my toy.
In operation, the link 9 is adapted to maintain the upright 6 in approximately a vertical position, while said upright is verti, cally reciprocated and oscillated by the rotary movement of a wheel 3, through the medium of a pitman 8.
4 In Fig. 2 of the drawings, I haveillustrated a toy as provided with two figures and these two figures are actuated in unison by virtue of a connecting bar 17, the remainder of the construction being similar to the toy illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
It is thought that the manner of operating my toy will be fully understood and that wood or metal can be used in the construction of the same, although wood is preferably used to reduce the expense of manufacture to a minimum.
While in the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a preferable form of construction embodying my invention, it is to be understood that the elements therein may be varied or changed without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is
1. A trundling toy comprising a handle rod, a wheel j ournaled at one end of said rod,
uprights slidably mounted in said rod, links pivotally connected to the lower ends of said uprights and to said handle rod, a connecting bar pivotally connected to the lower end of said uprights, a pitman pivotally connected to one of said uprights and eccentrically connected to said wheel, bodies carried by the upper ends of said uprights, jointed legs pivotally connected to said bodies and to saidhandle rod, and jointed arms pivotally connected to said bodies and to the upper sections of said legs.
2. A trundling toy comprising a handle rod, a wheel journaled at one end thereof, an up right slidably mounted in said handle rod, a
link pivotally connected to the lower end of In testimony whereof I affix my signatuie said upright and to said handle rod, a pitin the presence of two witnesses. man pivotally connected to the lower end of EDWARD G FREY said upright and eccentrically connected to 5 said Wheel, a figure carried by the upper'end Witnesses:
of said upright and connected with said K. H. BUTLER, handle rod. MAX H. SROLOVITZ.
