TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented NGV. 23, 1920. A
Application led August 1, 1919. Serial No. 314,594.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST KARG, a citizen of Germany, residing at thel city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trundle toys.
The object of the invention is to provide a toy comprising a wheeled cart Aand a figure connected by link work so that when the toy is trundled the figure has the appearance of walking and of pushing the cart.
The invention consists of the construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention,
Figure l is a side elevation of the toy, partly in section, and having one of the wheels removed to expose the link work, and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the link work.
Referring to the drawings, l indicates a trundle, which in the present instance is formed to represent a baby carriage or gocart, having a pair of wheels 2 and a crank shaft 3 fi-Xed to rotate with said wheels. The shaft is formed with two diametrically opposed cranks and it is mounted to rotate in the staples or bearings 4 secured to the trundle.
5 indicates the body of a figure having a pair of pivoted arms 6 and a pair of pivoted 'legs 7 As shown in the drawings, the figure represents a nurse maid pushing a baby carriage, but it will be understood that both the trundle l and the figure 5 may be made to simulate the appearance of any desired objects. The legs 7 are operatively connected with the crank shaft by links 8, the forward ends of which are secured to sleeves 9 mounted on the cranks. The sleeves are each preferably made of a single piece of metal, substantially as wide as the space between the parallel arms of thecrank and they serve to deiinitely position the links with respect to the cranks and to hingedly connect said parts.y The forward ends of the pivoted arms 6 are connected to the handle or crosspiece l0 of the trundle. A brace or wire rod 11 is fastened to the trundle and extends through the arms 6 so as to support the figure in such position that the legs will be clear of the ground By bendingthe brace the height of the figure from the ground may be adjusted as desired.
When the toy is trundled or drawn forward by means of the string 12, the rotation of the crank shaft will oscillate the legs in opposite directions and give the figure the appearance of walking and of pushing the trundle.
Various modifications and changes in construction of the device as herein illustrated and described may be made without departformed with two crank arms fixed to rotate with the wheels, a figure havingpivoted legs and arms, the forward ends of the arms being secured to the handle, a brace carried by,
pushing the trundle.
