TOY TRUNDLE.
Application filed January 31,1927. Serial 310.164,702.
My invention relates to toy trundles, and it consists in the construction and arrangement of a handle and-frame, within which is a wheel having cranks upon both ends of its axle, and a jointed toy figure seated upon the frame, with its feet upon the cranks, and having the head thereof jointed to the body of the ligure and adapted to be moved by the movement of the legs of the figure, as will hereafter be described.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and more particularly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view thereof along the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly tothe drawing, refers to a handle of any suitable dimensions, and l1 a fork mounted on the handle; a wheel 12 is journaled in and between the prongs 13 of the fork as by an axle 14, the ends of the axle being provided withoppositely disposed cranks 15. On the handle 10 is seated a body 16 as by a dovetailed structure 17; thighs 21 30 are pivoted to the lower part of the body-16 and on both sides thereof; legs 22 are pivoted to the said thighs and also to the cranks Y r15.l The upper part of the body 16 has a vmedial recess 18; a shaft 25 is journaled transversely the upper part of said body and adapted to extend through said recess; a head portion 26 is positioned in saidrecess and mounted on said shaft 25 and adapted to rotate therewith; one end of the said shaft has an arm 19 journaled thereon; the other end of the shaft has an arm 20 mounted thereon and adapted to rotate therewith. The arms 19,20 havel rearward extensions 24, and arcuate links 23 are pivoted `to said extensions 24 and also to the said thighs 21. `Bells 27 are mounted on the ends of the arms 19, 20.
In use, the toy is pushed as by the handle 10 thereby causing the wheel 12 to rotate and actuate the legs and thighsV of the figvure as by the cranks 15 aforesaid. Movement of the thighs 21 is communicated to the arms 19, 20 by the links 23, such that as one thigh moves upwardly the correspond- 5 ing arm will move downwardly; at the same .the fact that the rsaid shaft on one side of time the head 26 will move backwardly and forwardly as vthe arm 20 moves upwardly and downwardly, respectively, by reason of said arm is adapted to rotate the shaft 25 and the said shaft is 60 adapted to rotate the head 26. Also themovement of the said arms 19, 20 will ring the bells 27.
I claim: ,l
l. A toy comprising a rigid handle, a fork mounted on the handle, an axle journaled in the fork, cranks mounted onboth ends of the axle, a jointed body mounted on said handle adjacent said fork, said body comav prising a body portion, pthigh portions pivo ted to and on each side of said body por# tion, leg portions pivoted to said thighnportions and to said cranks, a shaft journaled transversely the upper part of said body portion, an arm journaled on said shaft on one side of said body portion, an arm mounted on said shaft on the other side of said body portion and adapted to rotate with said shaft, said body portion having a. recess medially its upper part, said shaft extend-i ing transversely said recess, a head portion positioned in said recess and mounted on said shaft and adapted to rotate therewith, extensions on said arms, and arcuate links pivoted to said extensions and to said thighs, for the purposes as described.
2. The combination, with a frame, a ground engaging wheel journaled in the frame, oppositely disposed cranks mounted on said wheel, and a jointed figure comprising movable thighs and legs mounted on the frame and having said legs pivoted to said cranks, of said figure having a recess medially its upper part, a shaft journaled transversely in said figure and adapted to extend through said recess, a head portion v positioned in said recess and adapted to rotate with said shaft, an arm journaled on said figure, an arm mounted onV and adapted to rotate with said shaft on the other side of the figure, and arcuate links pivoted to said arms and to said thighs, for the purpose as described.
3. In ya mechanical toy comprising a rigid handle, a fork mounted on the handle, an axle journaled in the fork, cranks mounted on both ends ofthe axle, a jointed body mounted on said handle and comprising a body portion, thigh portions pivoted to and on each side of the body portion, and leg portions pivoted to said thigh portions and part, said shafty extending transversely said 10 to said cranks, the combination comprising recess, a head portion positioned in said a shaft joiirnaied transversely through the -i'eeess and mounted on said shaft and adapt- .iipper part of said body portion, an arin` ed to rotate therewith, extensions on sai joiiriialed on said shaft on one side of said arms, and arcuate links pivoted to said eX- body-portioii, an arin mounted on said 4shaft tensions and to vsaid thighs, for the purpose 15'i on the other side ot' said body portion and as described. f adapted to rotate with said shaft, said body `In testimony whereof I affix iny signature'.
