Patented. Dec. 1., 1906.
Auilicatinn filed Marcl18,19(l6. Serial No. 304.863.
To rt 10710171, it 'lH/ll/f/ colic/Wit:
Be it known that LSoLonoN liizivu, a citizen of'the United States, residingin the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and usefliil improvements in T oilet laper Holders,
of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to toilet-paper hold- OIS.
My object is to provide a slotted holder for paper, which latter is cut into sheets \\1tll the sheets folded centrally and interlocked successively irom opposite sides, so that as each sheet is drawn t lrough the slot in the holder the edge of the next sheet is presented automatically, and which holder is so designed and constructed that a package of paper is easily inserted, but after the holder'is closed the holder cannot'be reopened until the package is used up, thereby pr Wonting more than a single sheet being removed at a. time.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction aniLt-hc combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which'- Figure 1 is a section of a preferred form of Fig. 2 is a front View of same. i F igs. '3, 4, .5 are modifications of the invention. Fig. 6 represents the manner of interiolding the sheets.
A represents a back of suit-able size, shape,
and material, and 2 is the removable box for The package 3 isholding" the package made of separate sheets interfolded in the manner shown in Fig. 6. The back and box may be of any suitable size, shape, or material. p
i in the preferred form of my apparatus shown in Figs. 1, 2 the back is made'substantially right triangular in vertical cross-sec t-ion with a closed or partially-closed hypotenuse part which is adapted to be secured to the wall by any suitablev means. The front of the back is open to receive and hold the box portion 2'. This box is here shown as rectangular in cross-section With a vertical central slit/ 4 in front, through which the sheets are ada ted to be drawn singly.
In Fig. 1 tie box 1s shown as havm an outer lipi5 along its rear bottom edge which is adapted to pivotally engage its corresponding ledge 6 on the lower edge of the back A,
. ger through the slot 4:, where you l -ed to hang. vertically,
' form of construction the paper will feed itself 'The box has a limited telescoping move ment with respect to the back and is adapted 5 to be locked into position by suitable means, as a spring-ct 1h 7, carried by the back, engaging a projection S on the inside of the box. it will thus be seen that the be); has a limited pivotal movement downward on the ledge 6, and when pressed up into the position shown in Fig. l the engagement vvilh the latch 7 will hold the parts i: position with the package arrange l at an incline. This incline position of the holder :1:- sis'l s to feed the paper forward toward the. ot l by gravity. in order to insure this forward feed ofthe paper, I may employ a spring 9, carried by the back and adapted always to press on the bacn of the package. Since the box tits inside of the back and the latch mechantsm is entii housed. within the apparatus, it is only pea ble to release the latch tin'ongh the front slotl. As long; as any paper remains in the holder access through. slot. 4 will be prevent- 1 ed. However, assoon the holder em the latch T can be released by i oseertinse;
can be removed and relillcd.
While I have shown a Sr obvious that any other for: e. suit ing mechanism for the box and. back may be employed.
The formof construction shown in F 1 is very simple, din-able, and compact and per- 8 5 'mits the box to be readily removed from the back.
In Fig. 3 is shown a 1 =nmdied form in whic l the "o hinged to er modiaca holder 11*" is ace out in which the same principle is present of pivoting the box to the. back and of locking the box tothe back, so that the former cannot be opened u ntil the holder is depleted of its contents..- In this theinven on 51 forward by gravity toward the slot l". too
In Fm. 5 1s shown another modification in I b i p 1 which the box 2 is hinged-to the back A", as at 5, so as to turn in a horizontal plane 1nstead of Hi8, vertical plane, as 1n the other figures. I 10 5 Having thus described my lnvention, Wnat eiaimpand desire to secnre by Letters Patnt,-1s
. A holder comprising two independent pi L'OS siidahly fitting one Within the other. Mud tornnng 3o1nt1y a single easlng, one of said pieces being fixed relative to the other piece and forming a back portion, and the other piece forming a box portion hingedto said back portion and having a central slot in front for the withdrawal of the paper, and
ing a-normally inelinedbottom the rear edge of said bottom being" hinged to the lower front edge of the hack portion, said box por tion having a delivery-slot in its front, anda spring-latch mechanism i' or holding the box to the hack and operable only through the slot when the box is empty.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing-witnesses. i
