Description

PATENTED NOV. 6, 1906. E SCHARFE' HAIR GUTTER.
APPLIOATION FILED JAN. so. 1905.
Flag/3v fzyefzzfa?" UNITED STATES IAENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
.Patented Nov. B, 1906.
Application med January 30, 1905. Serial No. 243.222.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST SCHARFE, manufacturer, residing at 18 Fahrgasse, Frankfort-on-the-Main, Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hair-clippers and beard-trimmers, and has for its obj ect to provide an improved construction for permitting the convenient attachment of an accessory comb-plate to vary the length of the cut, the device being strong, iirmly held in posi` tion, and not liable to clogging by hair and the like.
The accompanying drawings represent, in Figure 1, a section of the new accessory comb-plate when laced in its proper position on the beard-cutter. Figs. 2 and 3 show the accessory comb-plate separately in plan and section, respectively. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of part of the clipper with the accessory comb-plate attached, and Fig. 5 is a cross-section substantially on the plane indicated by the line A B in Fig. 4.
a is the ordinary comb-plate of the cutter. The same may be either straight or bent at b and is upwardly tapered.
cis the accessory comb-plate, which is provided, as usual, at its rear part with a fiat face d and has lateral guide-lugsf. This accessory comb-plate may be secured to the Yordinary comb-plate in any well-known manner; but at its front part it slopes upward, as at g, a small nose h forming the termination of said slope.
The upwardly-sloping part g carries special guide-lugs k, with which the points of the lateral teeth of the instrument engage. Each guide-lug lc is arranged in such manner that it comes into contact with the lateral teeth only when the accessory comb-plate is pushed home into place.
sory comb-plate are provided with sloping lower edges, so that the comb cuts at an equal he' ht all the wa along.
It will e observed t at the toothed end of the accesso face incline at the same angle as t e lower surface of the toothed portion of the main i comb-plate a.A These two surfaces are therefore fitted together closely, as shown in. Figs.
I and 4, leavin n ght lodge. oreover, by this construetion each tooth of the accessory comb-plate no space in which c is given a firm su port in its entire length by the correspon 'ng tooth of the main comblate a. The accessory comblate c is heldJ not only at its body'portion y the guide-lugsf, but at its toothed portion by the guide-lugs k. The accessory comb-plate is thus held much more reliably in the proper position.
Now what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is the following:
1. The combination with a clipper having a main comb-plate with an inclined lower surface at the teeth, of an accessory combplate having the upper surface of its teeth inclined at the same angle as the said lower sulface and engaging the same from end to en 2. The combination with a clipper having a main comb-plate, of an accessory combplate fitted against the lower surface of the main comb-plate and provided at its toothed portion with lateral guide-lugs engaging the edges of the main comb-plate.
3. The combination with a clipper having a main comb-plate, of an accessory combplate fitted against the lower surface of the main comb-plate and provided at its toothed portion with lateral guide-lugs en aging the ed es of the main comb-plate, an also provi ed With lateral guide-lugs at its body portion.
4. The combination with a clipper having a main comb-plate with an inclined lower surface at the teeth, of an accessory combplate having its toothed portion formed with an inclined upper surface to t closely said lower surface of the main comb-plate, said accessory comb-plate being provided with lateral guide-lugs both at its body portion and at its toothed portion.
5. An accessory comb-plate for clippers,
j having a toothed portion at an angle to its The teeth g of the acces body portion ,A and provided with lat eral guidelugs at said toothed portion.
6. An accessory comb-plate for clippers provided with lateral guide-lugs at its toothed portion. comb-plate e has an u per sur- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in
resence of two witnesses, .this 13th day of anuary, 1905.
