Description

J. W. FOLEY. RAZOR ATTACHMENT. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 29, 1912.
Patented Aug. 25, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
JOSEPH W. FOLEY, OF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA.
RAZOR ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented line. 25., Trill s1.
Application filed November 29, 1912. Serial No. 734,184.
Be it known thatI, JOSEPH W. FOLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ottawa, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razor Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to razor attachments.
The device is intended to provide a simplc, cheap and effective stucture, which may be readily attached to av razor, and which will sustain the same at a proper inclination or angle to guide the cutting edge thereof to its work.
\Vith the above recited objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of a razor provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the same.
lVith the employment of the ordinary razors, in the process of shaving, no means have been provided whereby the cutting edge of the razor is at all times sustained at a proper inclination with regard to the surface over which it is worked. As a result it has been found a severe task for an ordinary person to do his own'shavin and as a consequence he is forced to frequent tonsorial parlors which is objectionable to certain persons for various reasons. In the first place if the parlor is 0cc-up1ed, and others are in waiting; a great loss 'of'time 1s" occasioned by the last person entering the shop. Again, the barber's do not supply individual razors for their patronage, and skin diseases have thu not infrequently been caused. In the majority of cases, the individual profers being his own barber, and as the safety razors are also open to objections. I have provided a simple, buteffective guide which may be readily secured to or detached from any ordinary razor blade.
In the accompanying drawing. the numeral. 1 designates an ordinary razor blade to which is attached my improved guide 2. The guide is preferably constructed from a single piece of resilient material, and e1nbodies a substantially rounded top 3 having inwardly curved side arms at which terminate a. suitable distance away from the top. The lower longitudinal edges of tho Yflfil'llher are extended upwardly to provide normally contacting flat plates or nicn'ibers These plates terminate a suitable distance away from the head of the device, and the upper edges of the said members are pref crably flarec away from each other as designated by the numeral 6.
lVith a construction as above described, it will be noted that a razor blade may be readily inserted between the p ates and its upper edge engaged with the under face of the top of the device. The rounded inclined sides provide an el'lcctive guide whereby the razor may be sustained at an angle so as to properly direct its cutting edge to its work.
Having thus described the what I claim is;
,A. razor attachment comprising, in combination with a razor blade having a continuous fiatedge and transversely concave sides merging into the edges of said flat-edge, a resilient member fitting the blade and consisting of a. single length of material bent upon itself to provide relatively springy face engaging members (co-extensive with the length of the blade. and a flat crown overlying and engaging the flat edge, concuvcd impinging members extending upwardly from the lower edges of the face ongaging mcmbers co-extcnsive in length therewith, the said impinging members fitting into the concavities in the sides of the blade for the major portion of the width of the blade. and each having its lower edge gradually merging into the lower edge of the adjacent face engaging member whereby to provide a relatively broad lower edge to engage against the face of the operator.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH \V. FOLEY.
