UN T D snares PATENToFFIOE; v l CHARLES E. FLYNN, or PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. a I CLEANSING DEYilCE. I
- Specification of Letters Patent.
' Application filed January 22,1906. Serial No. 297,234.
Patented Oct. 30, ieoe.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, CHARLES E. FLYNN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleansing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cleansing devices, and the invention relates more particularly to a window-cleaner.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a novel form of window-cleaner having a cleansing attachment'and a polishing attachment, said attachments being arranged whereby either one may be used with out interfering with the other.
Another object of this invention is to provide a cleaning device for windows which will be extremely simple in construction, strong and durable, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely easy to manipulate when being used for cleaning windows.
Briefly described, my invention comprises a handle or pole which is provided witha fork carrying two outwardly-extending attachments, one of which is provided with a stri of rubber used for cleaning a window, whi e the other attachment is provided with 3 strip of fabric or felt for polishing the win- The detail construction of my invention will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and, referring to the drawings accompanying this applicatiomlike numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout both views, in which I Figure 1 is a fragmentar perspective view of my improved cleaning evice. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, partly in side elevation.
To put my invention into practice, I use a pole or handle 1, which may be of any desired length. The one end of the pole or handle is threaded, asat 2, to engage in a screwthreaded recess 3, formed in a fork or Y-shaped socket 4. The outwardly-extending prongs 5 5 of the fork are provided with recesses 6 6 to receive the angularly-disposed shanks 7 7 of attachments 8 and 9. Each one of the prongs 5 5 of the fork is provided with a set-screw 10, whereby the shanks 7 7 may be detachably secured in the prongs of the fork 4.
The attachments 8 and 9 besides the shanks 7 7 consist of blocks 11, having dovetailed grooves 12 formed therein to receive a strip of rubber 14 and strips of fabric or felt 15, said rubber and said felt being wedged within their respective attachments, whereby when the device is being used the rubber and felt cannot become easily detached therefrom.
When the device is to be used, the attachment8, containing the strip of rubber 14, is used for cleaning a window, and by turning the device the strip of felt 15, carried by the attachment 9, can be used for polishing the window. By the construction of the device I have practically embodied two cleaning devices in one, and the manner in which they are assembled permits of the attachment being easily and quickl separated from the handle or pole 1 of the evice.
The attachment is preferably constructed of metal and wood or maybe constructed entirely of metal.
Such changes in the construction of my improved cleansing device as are permissible by the appended claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 7 1. In a device of the type described, the combination of a Y-shaped socket having a screw-threaded recess in one of its arms, a
. handle screwing into said recess, the two other arms of said socket being provided with recesses, a shank seated in each of said recesses, a block carried by each shank and formed with a dovetailed groove, and a rubber seated in the groove of each block.
2. In a device of the type described, the combination with a Y-shaped socket, and a handle detachably attached to the socket, the outwardly-extending prongs of said socket being formed with recesses, a shank seating in the recess in each said arm, a
block detachably attached to each shank and position, a detachable block carried by said a rubber carried by each block. shank, and a rubber mounted in said block. 10 3. In a device of the character described, In testimony whereof I aifix my signature the combination with a socket member and a in the presence of two Witnesses, 5 handle detachably connected thereto, said CHARLES E. FLYNN.
socket member being formed with a recess, Witnesses: of a shank seating in said recess, means car- E. E. POTTER,
