DEVICE FOR HOLDING SHOW-CARDS.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, GEORGE PHILIP KATO, Jr., a citizen of the United States of America, residing at No. 236 Baldwin avenue, Jersey City, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Holding Show-Cards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in devices adapted to be attached to the handstraps of cars; and the object is to provide a cheap and convenient device readily attached to the depending hand-straps of cars, whereby a card of suitable material and having advertising or dis lay matter thereon may be readily disposed therein and held in place against accidental displacement.

The invention resides in the novel constructions and their adaptations to the purposes intended, as will be hereinafter fully specified, and the asserted novelty particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed.

I have fully andclearly illustrated my improvements in the annexed drawings, to be taken as a part hereof, and wherein Figure 1 is a front view of the complete device as in condition to. be attached to a handstrap of a car. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof in elevation. Figs. 3 and 4 are front and edge views, respectively, of the springholding plate. Figs. 5 and 6 are front and ed e views, respectively, of a card adapted to be utilized in my device. In the delineation the card is shown as broken through longitudinally.

Referrin to the drawings, A designates a sheet-meta plate stamped out to the shape indicated and formed with laterally-extending arms or legs a a a a, directed at right angles to the body of the plate and adapted to be turned back and down about the straps, and thus hold the plate securely to the straps. The lower end of the plate A may be of curved contour, as indicated, and the edges between the arms a and the edge of the part extending below the lower set of arms are turned up and over, as indicated at b in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, to form grooves or ways wherein the extension or leg of the card engages and is held in position. The lower portion of the plate A is also provided with guiding or securing lugs c 0 C designates a plate or tongue, of resilient metal, suitably secured at the lower portion of the plate A, between the edges thereof, the tongue being provided with oppositely-arranged turned-up edge catches O to engage in rpgcesses B made in the edges of the card- B designates the show-card, which may be of any desired size and be provided with such printed matter as may convey to the observer the purport intended. This card is formed or provided with an extension B, extending at right angles to the body of the card, and which fits in the body A and is formed with opposite recesses B which engage over the catches C on the springplate 0.

To utilize the device, the body-plate A is laid against the strap at the selected location, and the arms a, are bent back and down to embrace the strap. The leg B is then applied in the channel or ways intended for it, and then it is slid down until therecesses B engage over the catches C, which will hold the card displayed in position above the holding device.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As a new article of manufacture, a cardholding device as herein described, comprising a metal-plate body provided with u per and lower laterally-extending arms and aving its opposite edges turned over to form grooves and formed with a rounded lower end having its edge turned up and over, to support and hold a card against displacement, and a spring-holding plate secured to the back of the body-plate, and formed with catches C at its edges.

2. As a new article of manufacture a cardholding device as herein described, comprising a metal-plate body rovided with laterally-extending arms'and having its opposite edges turned over to form grooves, and a spring-holding plate secured to the back of the body-plate, and formed with catches C at its edges.
