UNITED VSTATES PATENT oEEroE.
CURTAIN-POLE.
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 16, 1906.
Application iiled July 25, 1906. Serial No. 327,644.
To @ZZ whom/ t may concern: y
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. HooKEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the. county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-poles; and the invention has for its object the provision of novel means for suspending one or more curtains from a pole without the use of rings or pins.
My invention aims to provide a simple and inexpensive pole which will present a neat and attractive appearance and capable of supporting heavy draperies and curtains.
A Jfeature of my invention resides in the fact that the curtains suspended from my improved pole can be easily and quickly draped or arranged without injuring or in any manner disfiguring the curtains.
With the above and other-objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be presently described, illustrated, and speciiically pointed out in the appended claims.
' Referring to the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a iront elevation of my improved pole. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the pole, illustrating curtains suspended therefrom. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of one end of the pole. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the pole. Fig. 5 is an elevation of a washer used in connection with the pole; and Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the pole, illustrating a supporting-ring applicable to the pole.
My improved pole consists of a cylindrical body 1, having a groove 2 formed therein from end to end. The ends of the pole are contracted to iormbosses 3, upon which washers 4 are mounted, said washers being slightly larger in diameter than the pole; The washers are provided with openings to accommodate the tapering ends 6 of a rod 7, which is adapted to lie in the groove 2 ofthe pole and support curtains 8 therein.
To retain the washers 4 upon the bosses 3,
l I employ suitable ornamentations 9, having threaded studs or screws 10, adapted to en- 1 gage .in the end of the body 1 ofthe pole. In
placing the curtains 8 upon the pole the ends two curtains of considerable weight are to be suspended from the pole, I can use a supporting split ring 11, having an offset portion 12. This ring can be easily and quickly placed upon the pole between the curtains 8 and positioned whereby the offset portion 12 of the ring will engage the rod 7 and assist in supporting the saine. The rod will thus be prevented from sagging.
By the novel construuction v of my improved pole it will be observed that one or more curtains can be draped or suitably arranged with relation to the pole. The pole can be constructed of wood or metal and may be finished to conform and harmonize with the window or door frame in connection with which it is used.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A curtainpole consisting of a cylindrical body having a groove formed therein Jfrom end to end, the ends of said pole being contracted to form bosses, washers iitting upon said bosses and having openings formed therein, a rod adapted to lie in said groove and supporting curtains, said rod having tapering ends to engage in the openings of said washers, ornamentations detachably connetced to the ends of said pole to hold said washers thereon, and a split ring fitting upon said pole and supporting said rod intermediate its ends, substantially as described.
2. A curtainpole consisting of a cylindrical body having a groove formed therein, bosses carried by the ends of said body, washers iitting upon said bosses and having openings formed therein, a rod mounted in the groove of said pole and having its ends engaging in the openings of said washers, and ornamentations detachably connected to the ends of said pole, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. A curtain-pole consisting of a cylindrical body having a groove formed therein,
the washers 4 upon the bosses 8. Wherel IOO bosses carried by the ends of said body, Washers ftting upon said bosscs and haying l openings ormed therein7 a ro mounte in the groove of said pole and having its ends i CHARLES H' HOOKEY' engaging in the openings of said Washers, and Witnesses:
means to hold said Washers upon said bosses, K. H. BUTLER,
substantially as described. t MAX H. SRoLoVITz.
In testimony Whereof'I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
