UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Application iled April l0. 1906. Serial No` 310.913.
Patented Oct. 2, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUrs JosEPH RAMOS RIVET, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Spoon-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved spoon-holder more especially designed for use on bottles containing medicine and the like and arranged to properly support a spoon and allow the latters convenient removal whenever it is desired to administer the medicine to a patient by the use ofthe spoon.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same,`
which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement as applied to a medicine-bottle and showing the spoon in place, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the improvement.
The improved spoon-holder A is preferably made from a single piece of spring metal, bent to form clamping-jaws A A2, between which is adapted to be passed the handle B of a spoon B to support the same, as plainly illustrated in Fig. 1. One of the jaws-as shown, the j aw AZ--is provided with a struckup point or a prong A3, extending at a right angle to the jaw A2 and adapted to be pressed into the cork O employed for closing the mouth of a medicine-bottle D.' The spoonholder can be readily placed in position on the cork C by pressing the prong or point A3 into the cork material, so that the jaws A A2 extend horizontally and permit conveniently engaging the shank B of the spoon B with the said jaws to securely support the spoon, as shown in Fig. 1, and to allow the convenient removal of the spoon from the jaws without detaching the latter from the cork C whenever it is desired to administer medicine from the bottle D t'o a patient by the use of the spoon B.
As indicated in Fig. 2, the jaw A is referablymade in the form of a half-circ e, and the jaw A2 has end members and is connected by a U-shaped or half-round back with the jaw A and from the said back extends integrally the prong A3 at a point approximately midway between the end members of the jaw A2. By this particular construction the holder A is rendered very eiective and exceedingly light.
Having thus described `my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A spoon-holder made from a single piece of material, having clamping-jaws for receiving the handle of a spoon, and a prong for fastening the holder to the bottle.
2. A spoon-holder for medicine-bottles made from a single piece of metal and comprising a pair of clamping-jaws for receiving between them the handle of a spoon, and a prong struck up from one of the jaws at right angles thereto to permit of being pressed into the cork ofthe bottle.
3. A spoon-holder for medicine-bottles made from a single piece of metal and comprising a pair of clamping-jaws for receiving between them the handle of a spoon, one of the jaws being in the form of a half-ring and the other having end clamping members, and the jaws being. connected with each other by a half-round back, and a prong extending integrally rom one side of the back at a point approximately midway between the said end clamping members.
In testimony whereof lI have signed my name to this specification in the presence oi. two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS JOSEPH 'RAMOS RIVET.
