'lhe inveution consists in attaching to tl1e edges of the leg of tl1e galten, (01 to what may be oalled t-l1e latchets wlxere the laci ng is usually applied,) metall ic plates, whioh hooktogether und securely fasten tlxe leg of the gaite1 zuound a.nd above the ankle, thereby aflbuling support to weak ankles, zmd preserving those that um 11013 wea-k in a hea-lthy condition.
The dnuviug represents a perspective view 0f a. galte1 constructed aceording t-o 1ny invention.
A is a plate, of any suitable metal, (as brass or eupper) which is attached to 0ne of the edges of tl1e leg (01 latchets) by rivets 01 otherwise, as seen in the dmwing.
'l.l1e ellg@ of tlxis platte is turned outward, so as to furm u hook it-s whule length, 01 a portion' of its lengiih. lt ls placed between tl1e unter leather of the leg B und tl1e lining O, tahe size an l fonn 0f (alle pla.te being infilcated by duttd lines.
Att-ached to t-lxe otl1er edge' of the leg 01 la.tchet by a folding leather, D, obere is anooher plate, E, of the same material, in which obere is a long slot, which corresponds in length with the hook A, and wliich is sulficiently broad to admit' the hook, a.nd allowit to clasp ar0uncl its outer edge. j, when tl1e gaiter is fastened.
'lhe folcling lea.ther D is sewed tightly 130 eal1 latehet 0f the gaiter, and also below the lower ends of the plates. \Vhen the gaiter is fastened arom1d the ankle, the folding lea.ther D is doubled ove r the ankle.
