Specification of Letters Patent.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OTTO KAMPFE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Show-Case, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in show-cases, and more particularly to what may be called portable show-cases, by which latter expression I mean small showcases adapted to be carried at will from place to place or exhibited in shop-windows or on counters, &c.

I have illustrated the preferred form of my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts.

Figure 1 is a top view; Fig. 2, a cross-section taken on the lines 2 2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 8, a View, partly in section and partly an outside view, being a cross-section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 and looking rearward, and Fig. 4 a rear view.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a frame or main body portion which may be of any suitable material and any suitable dimensions and shape.

B represents a top or cover which will preferably be of glass or other transparent mate rial. As shown, this top is made either partially or wholly removable by being movably arranged in slides or grooves a, arranged in the sides of the frame A. The cover B is also shown as provided with a back piece I), the two being secured together in any suitable manner.

Arranged within the frame and intermediate the top and bottom thereof is a false bottom or display-board C, which will preferably be arranged, as shown, at an incline and provided with suitable retaining devices for holding in position the goods to be exhibited. These retaining devices are shown as being grooves or depressions adapted to receive and retain articles of similar shape; but the form and kind of these retaining devices may be varied at will. The displayboard may be supported in any suitable manner, although, preferably, it will rest on the inclined supports 0 As shown, the display-board does not continue to the back of the case, but is terminated to leave a space at the rear or top of the show-case for the recepi tion of an advertising-plate I). This plate I will preferably be removable, so that the advertising thereon can be changed or so that any one of a number of plates may be substituted at will. Preferably the inclined supports 0 a will be continued to the rear of the display-board and act as a support for the removable advertising-plate, thus supporting the board and plate in substantially the same plane.

The arrangement of the display-board intermediate the top and bottom of the showcase evidently leaves a space E, which may be used as a receptacle for additional goods, thus making it unnecessary to remove the goods from the display-board. As shown more particularly in Fig. 4, this space is closed by a door F, which may be arranged to open and close in any suitable manner, although, preferably, it will be hinged, as shown, to the lower framework of the show-case. As shown, it is provided with a catch f, which is suitably arranged to swing on a pivot f. This catch, as shown, consists of a straight bar provided with a recess or slot f Arranged on the back piece I) of the cover is a suitable receiving means forming the other part of the latch, such as a pin f, rovided with an enlarged head f. The s ot f is swung to engage with the pin f 4 and under neath the enlarged head f As a result when the cover is closed and the door is closed and the catch swung into locking osition the entire show-case is locked in c osed condition. By unfastcning the catch it is possible to open either or both the cover and the door, so as to obtain access to either the display-board or the receptacle. The pin f serves also as a finger-hold to move the cover B.

WVhat I claim as new is 1. In a show-case, the combination of an inclined display-board, an advertising-plate supported in substantially the same plane as the display-board and movable independently of the board, and a removable cover for both the plate and board.

2. In a show-case, the combination of a display board, an advertising plate supported in substantially the same plane as the board, a goods-receptacle arranged under the board and plate, and a removable cover for both the plate and board.

3. In a show-case, the combination of a display board, a removable advertisingplate, and a removable cover for both of the same.

4. In a show-case, the combination of a display-board, a removable cover for the same, a goods-receptacle, a door therefor, and a catch comprising two parts, one part arranged on thecover, and the other part, on

5 the door, and adapted when interlocked to maintain both the cover and door in a closed position.
