Description
PATENTED AUG. 28, 1906. H BRISACHER GARMENT PASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT.6,1905.
IA/VENTOH. fi uyaflrzls'ac/zej' 8 M W w ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HUGO BRISACHER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.,' ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM F. MARTIN, 'OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-FASTENER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 6, 1906. Serial No. 277.223.
Patented Aug. 28, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUeo BRISAGHER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Garment-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.
The invention relates .to a means for removably fastening the parts of garments or other flexible cloth articles. It is adapted especially for .use as a cloth-fastener, although it is applicable for other uses.
The object of the invention is to provide a device which may be conveniently manipulated to engage or disengage the garmentsections an which will be of such structure as to securely hold the garment against accidental disconnection.
The invention resides in certain special features of construction, which will be fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to. the accompanying drawings, which illustrate as an example the preferred embodiment of my invention, in which drawingsv Figure 1 is a sectional view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing the stud and the'manner of manipulating the same. Fig. 3 is a top or outer view-of the stud. Fig. 4 is a bottom or inner view of the stud, and Fig. 5 is a top view of the socket.
a and 1) indicate the garment-sections to be 'joined. To the section b the socket piece c is fastened. The socket-piece comprises flanges c for holding it engaged with the cloth, and a socket proper, 0 having overhanging flanges c at its upper side.
The section a carries the stud, which is held in place by an eyelet (1, this being fastened to the cloth and having an opening extending unobstructedly through it. The stud comprises two sections, each of which has a head e semicircular in form, a shank e, and a hook e The sections of the stud are arranged to lie opposite each other, as the drawings show, and they are joined by a spring-strap f, which islet into the top surface of the heads e, so as between the stud v to lie flush therewith. The form and proportions of the parts are such that when the spring-strap f is allowed'to expand, as shown in Fig. 1, the hooks 0 will engage under the flange c of the socket-piece 0, thus firmly connecting the two parts of the garment By pressing the heads 6 so as to flex the spring f in the manner indicated in the drawings the hooks e will be moved toward each other, allowing them to disengage the flange c and then the sections of garment may be disconnected. This movement of the hooks 6 however, is not. sufficient to permit the stud to disengage the eyelet d, the engagement and eyelet being permanent. 3
In the use of the invention the two sections of the fastener are engaged with the respective garment-sections, and owing to the inclined outer surfaces of the hooks e the fastener-sections may be automatically 'engaged by simply pressing them together, said inclined surfaces of the hooks striking the flanges c and causingthe hooks to move toward each other sufficiently to enter the socket-piece, after which the spring f returns the parts to the position shown in Fig. 1 and locks the two sections together. To disconnect. the sections, it is only necessary to press the heads e of the stud toward each other,
causing the stud to assume the position shown in Fig. 2 and allowing the ready disconnection of the 'stud member from the socket member. I
Having thus described the preferred form of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A garment-fastener comprising a socket member for connection to one section of the garment, an eyelet for connection to the other section of the garment, and a two-part stud for separably connecting the eyelet and the socket, each part comprising a semicircular head, a shank and a hook, the parts bein spaced apart from each other and connecte by a spring-strap engaging the semicircular heads.
2. A garment-fastener comprising a socket member for connection to one section of the garment, an eyelet for connection to the other seetion of the'garment, and eitwo-part name to this specification in the presence of siglud foi separailfly connectingthe eyelet and two subscribing witnesses. 7 t e soc et eac art comprls a, semicircu- 131' head' eshank zznd shook, 3 1% hooks being HUGQ C 5 spaced apart froin each other, anti the heads 7 Witnesses:
being connected by a spring-strep. ISAAC B. OWENS,
In testimony whereof I have signed my JNO. M. BITTER.
