Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1915.
Application filed June 13, 1914. Serial No. 844,924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEROY J. HARE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Broughton, in the county of Clay and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a two part separable button which may be used to advantage on trousers for supporting the suspenders, or for many other purposes on various parts of difierent garments.
Another object of the invention is to provide a two part button comprising a socket member having a key-hole slot therein, and a stud member adapted to fit in said slot and to be drawn by the strain on the material toward the smaller portion or branch of the slot and held in place by means of an enlargement or swell in the socket member which will yield to the action of the stud member and prevent an accidental detachment.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a bottom plan View of the stud members secured to a piece of fabric, Fig. 2 is an underside plan view of the button head or socket member, Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the material and showing the stud member in elevation, and Fig. 4 is a central vertical section through the button head or socket member.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the head of the stud and 2 is the shank thereof, said shank being slightly enlarged at 3 and secured to the material 4: by means of washers 5 and 6 and the shank 2 being upset or riveted as at 7 against the washer 6.
The button head member comprises the top or disk 8 having a slight inward swell 9 in the center thereof or in line with the smaller portion of the key-hole slot. The
When the head 1 of the stud member of the button is passed through the enlarged portion 15 of the slot in the button head a and moved past the contracted neck 17 into the smaller portion 16 of the slot, the head 1 will ride over the curved portion 9 in the button head 8 and be secured in place in the lower portion of the slot owing in part to the enlargement 3 on the, shank 2 of the stud, and in part the resilient portion 9 of the disk 8.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is The hereindescribed button head member comprising an outer disk having an inwardly bulged portion centrally thereof, a combined collet and shank," said shank hav ing a key-hole slot therein and a contracted neck between the enlarged portion and the smaller portion of said slot, said shank having an outwardly turned flange to se cure the button to the material, and said contracted neck adapted to hold the shank of a stud against accidental displacement.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
