which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for holding bed-coverings to mattresses so as to prevent displacement thereof, and while applicable to any ordinary bed is particularly adapted for use in connection with folding beds to prevent the mattress and the bed-coverings from slipping down to the head of the bed when the latter is folded.

A further object of the invention is to have the device complete in itself and capable of being attached to a bedstead without alteration therein. It is also proposed to arrange] the device so as not to be in the way when the bed is occupied and to enable the convenient adjustment of the device for rendering the same operative to clamp the mattress and bedclothing to the bed and also to release the same.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shownin the accompanying drawings, and articularly pointed out in the appended c aims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

The present device includes a base member 1 in the nature of a flat'metallic strap of about two inches in width, over which arches a top member 2, suitably connected at its ends to the ends of the base member. If preferred, the base and top member may be lntegral. In any event the base and to members form a substantially elliptical loop or band. A pair of brackets 3, preferably L-shaped straps, are secured to the top of the loop or band and project at one side thereof.

In practice the base of the band or loo is suitably secured across the top of the cot portion of the spring-bottom 7 of a foldable bed 8, and the brackets 3 are secured to the footboard 9, the loop being disposed transversely of the bedstead in position to embrace the mattress 9 and the bedclothing. The clamps, composed of the stems 4 and buttons or heads 6 and 7, are of course withdrawn sufficiently to enable the convenient introduction of the mattress into the loop and the tucking of the foot of the mattress. After the bedclothing has been properly adjusted upon the mattress the clamps are set down tightly against them, so as to clamp the same and the mattress against the bed-bottom. The advantage of the swiveled buttons or heads 6 will now be understood, as they prevent injury to the bedclothing when tightening the clam s.

en the bed is folded, as in Fig. 2, the clamp prevents the mattress and bedclothing from slipping down from the footboard, and thereby maintains the same in a neat condition, wherefore it is not necessary to remake the bed when it is let down for use, as is necessary when the present device is not used. When the bed is to be occupied, the clamp members are withdrawn above the mattress, so as not to be in the way of the feet of the occupant of the bed.

Among the advantages of the present in vention it will be noted that the device is complete in itself. It may be fitted to the bedstead without requiring any alteration therein. It does not have to be removed when the bed is in use, and it effectually maintains the mattress and bedclothing in place when the bedstead is closed Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is.-
